‘Like’ and ‘Share’ to help spread the message

Nederland – As students and Texans take time off this March, it’s imperative that drivers always get a sober ride.

Last year Texas saw a spike in drunk driving crashes in March — more than any other month. As spring break celebrations begin, drivers can keep celebrations fun and avoid death and other tragic consequences of impaired driving by driving like a Texan: kind, courteous and safe, and always choosing a sober ride.

With a focus on reaching college students around spring break, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will support community efforts like this across the state to stop impaired driving. The message is simple: arrange a sober ride before you start celebrating.

Never drive after consuming any amount of alcohol or other drugs. The consequences of driving impaired — including up to $17,000 in fines and fees, jail time, losing your license, or ending your own or someone else’s life — are simply not worth it. Find a sober ride to ensure that you have a fun and safe spring break.

Drive Sober. No Regrets. is an important part of TxDOT’s Drive like a Texan: Kind. Courteous. Safe. initiative. Drive like a Texan is about embracing the pride, camaraderie and responsibility of being a Texan on the road. By making thoughtful choices, we can all help keep each other safe.
