Red Flag Day today! High temps, low RH, and high winds. Please, be safe and don't start fires by:
- no letting a running or hot car touch grass/brush/tree - check that your driveway is clear!
- discarding lit cigarette butts
- no fireworks
- no campfires!
- no burnpiles/brush burning!
- do not use hot machinery near fuels (grass/trees/bushes/etc)
- no shooting fi****ms

Welcome Tim Hohnbaum! Tim is Nederland Fire's new Wildland Coordinator. He started his career in 2012 with the Oregon Department of Forestry as a wildland firefighter, then worked with Molalla Fire District in 2014 as a structure firefighter. In 2022 he moved to Oak Creek Fire Protection District and worked as a Wildland Captain. He has been working in the fire service for 14 years, and has traveled all over the United States on wildfire responses. When he's not at the station, he enjoys skiing, attending sporting events, and cheering on the Denver Broncos. He also enjoys spending time with his three dogs and his girlfriend Morgan. We are so happy to have him as part of Ned Fire!

Nederland Fire Protection District needs volunteers to continue to serve our district effectively. If you are interested in becoming a firefighter, and are dedicated to serving our community, please apply! New recruit orientation starts in June. The deadline to apply (for this round) is May 15.

Many of NFPD's current firefighters would be happy to talk to potential recruits about what it takes to do this job, if you have any questions or concerns. I remember when I first applied, I was concerned that because I already had a full time job, two kids, and was older (let's just say, I wasn't in my 20's anymore!), that some or all of those reasons would prohibit me from volunteering. However, I had a strong desire to serve my community (like all our firefighters do), and I had the desire to learn new skills and work as a team. Nine years later, I'm still loving it, and I love my second "firefighter family."

We hope you'll join us in the fun and hard work. It definitely takes dedication, so be prepared to do a bunch of hard, dirty work, that's mixed with times that make you realize it's all worth the effort!
