Did you catch Needham High School on WCVB last night?

Over the summer, our community had the incredible privilege of celebrating 100-year-old WWII veteran John Hasenfus. John left NHS in December 1944 to serve our country, and we were honored to finally present him with his honorary diploma as a member of the Class of 1945.

As highlighted in last night's broadcast, the ceremony led by our Superintendent and Principal Sicotte was a deeply moving event.

Watch the segment and read the full story here:

John Hasenfus left Needham High to serve in World War II. As he turned 100, his family and the school made sure he got to celebrate the milestone he missed

This morning, the Needham Public Schools community marked 25 years since September 11, 2001, by unveiling a lasting tribute, "9.11 A Reminder of Hope." We gathered to reflect and honor all whose lives were forever changed, specifically remembering four members of our school community lost that day: Susan L. Blair, Lisa Fenn Gordenstein, Cora H. Holland, and David E. Retik.

A special thank you to Chair Alisa Skatrud and Superintendent Gutekanst for their thoughtful remarks, School Resource Officer Nicole McMahon for half-masting the flag, and to the Needham High School Brass Quintet for their moving performances.

Welcome back NPS Staff!
It was great to see everyone gathered in the Needham High School Cafeteria to launch the new academic year at our General Staff Meeting. The morning featured remarks from School Committee Chair Alisa M. Skatrud, NEA President Paula Hartigan-Patey, and student speaker Lucas Lear, Class of '27. We were also treated to musical performances by the Middle School Select Choir.

During his main address, Superintendent Gutekanst set an inspiring tone for the year and took a special moment to recognize local first responders. A major highlight of the event was celebrating the 25 incredible employees who marked 20 years of dedicated service to Needham Public Schools.

Thank you to everyone who participated. Here’s to a wonderful year of collaboration, growth, and student success!
