Last week, the Needville ISD Police Department was proud to host an ALERRT Level I Train-the-Trainer Course at Needville High School.

ALERRT stands for Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training. The Level I course focuses on preparing law enforcement officers to respond quickly and effectively during active attack situations.

This was not an easy week. Officers from across the State of Texas traveled to Needville to complete an intensive 40-hour course led by ALERRT adjunct instructors. Throughout the week, participants were challenged through classroom instruction, hands-on training, realistic scenarios, and evaluations of their ability to teach these critical response skills to other officers.

Those who successfully completed the course earned the opportunity to return to their communities and train officers within their own agencies and surrounding areas.

We are honored to have hosted this important training and proud to support efforts that help strengthen law enforcement response capabilities across Texas.

Thank you to the ALERRT instructors and every officer who dedicated their time and effort to this demanding course.

Yesterday, Needville ISD took an important step forward in strengthening our district’s emergency preparedness.

The Region 4 Education Service Center Office of Emergency Management and School Safety joined us to facilitate Needville ISD’s first district-level active shooter tabletop exercise. Police officers, nurses, campus administrators, district directors, and executive staff gathered in one room to work through a simulated emergency scenario and discuss how each department would respond.

A tabletop exercise allows key leaders to walk through a critical incident in a controlled environment. It helps us evaluate our emergency plans, clarify roles and responsibilities, strengthen communication, identify potential gaps, and ensure we are prepared to respond as one team during a real emergency.

School safety requires ongoing preparation, collaboration, and a willingness to continually improve. We are grateful to Region 4 for guiding us through this important exercise and to every staff member who participated.

This was the first district-level exercise of its kind for Needville ISD, but it will not be the last. We will continue building on this foundation to make our schools safer and stronger for our students, staff, and community.
