After being in a house that was hit by the tornado (not mine), the basement cellar door blowing off with me down there, cascading broken windows and me being barefoot having to walk through the blown out glass to find shoes to handling broken glass and nails for 4 weeks now, the only injury I received was today with my own earring🙄😆

The jury has returned with the magnet nail catcher idea. Does anyone know if a metal detector is stronger than this? This is a heavy magnet!

The jury has returned the verdict on picking up nails. I’m kinda disappointed because much of this “metal” that can’t be picked up by a magnet can still pop your tires. So I’m back to my “old man puttering around in his garage” hobby.,

Ok thank you to Maria I have a new obsession. I have officially turned into my father. How to get nails out of your lawn! You can fast forward but if you want to learn something interesting, watch the whole thing: spoiler alert - he said the role thingys are only good for flat surfaces. He said go to Harbor Freight and get the magnetized tool holder Grandpas always have on their garage walls that hold their tools magnetically. Tie twine around each end and drag it through the grass because since it doesn’t have wheels, it gets closer to the ground!!!!!

I’m kind of discouraged y’all. I just don’t know how to stop the nails in the road and grass, much less the glass shards. I have tried it all, shop vac, rake. Gloved hands are the only things that work. I’ve been trying all the things for four weeks. The Menasha street sweeper went by and I chatted with him. It doesn’t pickup much but dirt and small things and it leaves behind nails. It doesn’t have suction, only the centrifugal force spinner. And my hand magnet roller won’t pick up painted white nails or alloy nails 😭. I even called the county and they have no vacuum that would work and not get destroyed so we can’t use our Snufflupagus leaf sucker because all this metal and glass would ruin a $350,000 machine. I can’t remember if our Neenah street sweeper has the vac option but again, it’s not made for tornado debris. Ugh. And I am way ahead of everyone since I’m retired and can hustle all day in the heat and not many people have that option. So many people in the east end on Doty Island can’t live in their house much less hand pick every shard or nail or shingle or insulation. They have to get their house fixed first. No kids or dogs can play outside in this area. Ugh. Someone needs to invent a vacuum for a yard. I’ve seen the ones that the attachment is two feet wide. Most lots are 60 x 120! Can you tell I’m tired? I’m not normally so negative! (And I’m not even mentioning the horror across the river.)
