Neenah-Menasha Model Railroad Club

Neenah-Menasha Model Railroad Club A place to hang out, make friends, and learn useful skills, all under the roof of one of the oldest buildings in Neenah-Menasha.

The Neenah-Menasha Model Railroad club is an O-scale model railroad club focused on interpreting the railroad history of Neenah-Menasha and the surrounding area, through model railroading. While also building the model railroad we also interpret local railroad history through the preservation of our residence, a Milwaukee Road freight depot that was built in 1882 for the Milwaukee and Northern Rai

lroad. Our history starts in 1882 when the depot was built at the end of the line for the Milwaukee and Northern. Just prior to the depot being built the Milwaukee and Northern was being leased by the Wisconsin Central Railway which had a line built from Hilbert, Wisconsin to Neenah, Wisconsin as a way for the WC to access Milwaukee and Chicago. Then in 1880 the WC let the lease expire and the Milwaukee and Northern was its own railroad again. Then in 1880 the Milwaukee Road became interested and leased the railroad as a way to compete with the WC. In 1891 the Milwaukee and Northern officially became part of the Milwaukee Road. Fast forward to 1964 when a group of enthusiasts decide to create a model railroad club that focus on the local area. Looking for a place they found the depot we are in now and started to build an O-scale 2-rail layout. Over the years the Depot has seen 6 different railroad roll past. Instead of 4-4-0's of the Milwaukee and Northern pulling in carloads of passengers, Canadian National Geeps roll by with the local branch service. The Milwaukee Road is long gone, but its presence still remains through the preservation of the depot which is painted and represented as it was when we started renting the depot back in '64.

Time to update our cover photo. The F-units are of the estate of late member Bradd Buettner and the model of our clubhouse was scratchbuilt by club member Jacob Woelfel. Photo by Tom Bruss.

Thanks to all that visited during our open house yesterday and today! We had nice weather and a good number of folks young and not so young. The gremlins were not insurmountable, and were marked down on our fix-it list. We hope all attending had as much enjoyment as we did.
