Among the many projects of our GLCC and GLTCC teams, our crews have been busy planting native trees across Marquette County to help enhance coastal habitats near Lake Superior and our local ecosystems. We’re making great progress toward the 100,000 mark, and you can help us get there!

Whether you’re a local municipality, organization or landowner, you can request trees at no cost to you (plant your own trees or the GLCC can help you plant trees for orders over 100).

** Update 07/13/26 **
Due to outage restoration efforts that continued from Sunday night into Monday morning, the planned power outage associated with the M-35/CR 492 Roundabout project was postponed.

The outage has been rescheduled for Wednesday, July 15, and is expected to begin at 7:00 a.m.

⚠️ Planned Power Outage Notice
In conjunction with the M-35 roundabout construction project, a planned power outage is scheduled for Monday, July 13, beginning at 7:00 a.m.

The planned outage will impact approximately 250 customers, including some in the vicinity of the project area; with the majority of those affected along M-35 south of CR492. The outage is expected to last no more than two hours, with power restored as soon as the work is complete.

Go for a walk in the woods and check out our new StoryWalk. We're still putting the finishing touches on it but the story panels are all installed and look amazing!
The start of the StoryWalk is where the trails cut into the woods by the horseshoe pits. We'll continue to improve signage throughout the summer.

Update on CR492&M-35 road construction:

Marquette County Road (CR) 492 will be closed and detoured beginning July 6 as part of the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) project converting the M-35/CR 492 intersection in Eagle Mills to a modern roundabout.

CR 492 will be closed to through-traffic from the US-41/CR 492 intersection in Negaunee to just west of the M-35/CR 492 intersection, with traffic detoured onto US-41 to M-35. CR 492 will remain open to local traffic. The detour is expected to be in place for approximately three weeks.

The work is part of the $6.2 million project to rebuild more than 3 miles of M-35 in Marquette County between CR 480 and US-41. Work will include crushing and shaping the existing pavement, new asphalt pavement, widening existing paved shoulders, realigning the M-35/CR 492 intersection and converting it to a roundabout, grading, and tree clearing at various locations for safety improvements.

Work started in early May and is expected to be completed in mid-October.

Reminder to everyone that we do not delay/change garbage collection when the collection day falls on a holiday. It appears the Google AI Overview information is incorrect and we have reached out to them to try to fix that problem.

RUBBISH DROP OFF:   3RD WEDNESDAY EACH MONTH - ONE LOAD PER MONTHGLASS in a separate bin will be accepted for recycling with Township personnel taking the bin to dump into our designated glass trailer

FLAGS, FLAGS, AND MORE FLAGS!!
You should not put flags (such as the U.S. flag) in standard recycling or garbage bins for two primary reasons: equipment tangling and respectful disposal customs.

There are local drop off spots where flags can be disposed of properly, please check with the following in your area:
VFW Posts
Many Post Offices
American Legions, or
Law Enforcement Stations

Please note, we do collect the ones that come here to be recycled and someone will drop those off to be properly disposed of. Please check into a local place to drop them off before trying to recycle them. Thank you kindly!

Everything you bring here needs to be clearly marked and/or in its original container.
