Some people join the fire service and take their time finding their place. Peter McClure jumped right in.

After completing his fire academy, Peter went straight into EMT-B training, earning his NREMT-B certification and continuing to build on his skills as a firefighter. He's also part of our water rescue and rope rescue teams, and when he's not at the station, he's busy running his own window washing business here in Manzanita. His curiosity and willingness to learn are hard to miss, Peter is always asking questions, looking for ways to improve, and soaking up whatever knowledge he can.

In 2024, Peter was recognized as our Rookie of the Year, but what stands out just as much as his accomplishments is the person behind them. He's one of the kindest people you'll meet, always ready with a good sense of humor and a helping hand. Peter, thank you for bringing your curiosity, good nature, and dedication to Nehalem Bay Fire & Rescue. We're glad you're part of our team and our family.

What is all the smoke in the area? There is no fire near us. The smoke is coming from Central and Eastern Oregon, and possibly Washington. The smoke is being blown here by the NE winds.
This is a good reminder that there is an emergency alert system which would notify you in the event of an evacuation order. An alert text message would be sent via a system called Everbridge Tillamook County Alerts. YOU MUST SIGN UP FOR IT. Link below https://member.everbridge.net/453003085611895/login
Here is a news article about the smoke in the Portland Metro area: https://www.kptv.com/2026/08/03/wildfire-smoke-prompts-air-quality-advisory-portland-metro-multiple-oregon-counties/

When the workday ends for most people, it's time to head home. For Ryan Boos, it's often just another opportunity to serve.

Ryan is a career firefighter and EMT-A with our neighbors at Rockaway Fire & Rescue, but he also volunteers with Nehalem Bay Fire & Rescue. Whether he's covering QRT shifts alongside his wife, mentoring newer members during training, or sharing his knowledge in the classroom, Ryan is always looking for ways to make those around him better. One of those efforts recently paid off when one of our members completed the EMR course Ryan helped teach and earned their certification.

If you've spent any time around Ryan, you've probably seen his positive attitude. He enjoys a challenge, is always looking to learn, and never hesitates to encourage others to do the same. Right now, he's continuing that commitment while deployed as a wildland firefighter on the Grasshopper Fire. Ryan, thank you for the time, energy, and experience you bring to our department. We're proud to have you as part of the Nehalem Bay Fire & Rescue family, and we're wishing you a safe deployment.
