Whelp… the husband and I found ourselves in a pretty sh*tty situation a few days ago. 🚽🤢 💩

As it turns out, septic tanks don’t care about your plans.

Made a call to The Grinder Pump Man, and disaster was averted. 😅

Just another reminder that small businesses do more than sell coffee and cute things—they keep our homes, farms, and communities running every day.

Let’s hear it for the folks who handle the dirty jobs, too. 👏

Support local. Even when it’s not the glamorous kind. 💪😂

Yesterday I received my Certificate of Nomination, and today I hung it on the wall.

I’ll admit, I’m kind of proud of myself.

I was never really a certificate getter growing up. I was just a small-town Cass County girl who grew up, raised a family, built a career, and found a way to serve the community I love.

So seeing my name on this one hit a little differently.

Thank you to everyone who has supported me along the way.

There’s still a lot of work ahead, and I look forward to continuing to earn your trust—and your vote.

Tonight, I’m taking a moment to be grateful… and maybe just a little proud.

One of the things I love most about Cass County is our small businesses.

They’re more than just places to shop, grab a cup of coffee, or pick up a loaf of bread. They’re our neighbors, friends, and fellow community members. They’re the people sponsoring local events, supporting school activities, volunteering, and investing in the communities they call home.

Small businesses help give our towns their character and keep our local communities thriving. When we support them, we’re supporting local families and helping strengthen Cass County.

Today I wanted to give a little love to a couple of local businesses that make our county special. Be sure to check them out and show them some support! ❤️

We had a great Saturday supporting small businesses right here in Cass County. 💛

First stop was The Bean Bank Coffee House (aptly named because it used to be a bank!). I highly recommend the Gold Bar iced latte. ☕️💯 The owners live and work right here in Cass County, and one also serves on the Nehawka Volunteer Fire Department.

Next, I picked up my absolute favorite loaf of sourdough—strawberry cream cheese—from Bert's Bread. 🍓🍞 The sweet baker has been best friends with my oldest daughter since preschool. Small-town connections for the win!

We also grabbed a salve from Fueled by Spirit for my dad to try on his radiation-fried neck. Another wonderful local business based in Union.

We spent the morning chatting with neighbors, visiting vendors, and celebrating the hardworking people who make our communities special. My dad and youngest daughter were on gummy bear duty, which is a very serious responsibility. 😂

After all the sweet treats, we headed to Plattsmouth for the Steampunk Festival.

What a fun and unique event! We watched a tea duel, learned what a penny-farthing bicycle is, admired some incredible costumes, and met a few furry friends along the way.

One of those furry friends, Ginger, was an adoptable dog from a local rescue group, Happy Paws Plattsmouth. If you’re looking to add a four-legged family member, be sure to check them out. 3 of our fur babies came from their care. ❤️🐾

Days like today are a great reminder that there is always something happening in Cass County—and always good people behind it.

My dad ended up in the hospital today with pneumonia. Poor guy just can’t seem to catch a break lately.

While I was sitting around worrying myself sick and doom scrolling Facebook, I somehow ended up on an Australian animal rehabber’s page. 😂

A tiny magpie was instigating a scuffle with a kookaburra much bigger than itself, and the narrator said:

“Don’t get your ambitions mixed up with your capabilities.”

And honestly… that hit me in the feels.

Running for office has pushed me outside my comfort zone more times than I can count. I understand the time commitment this role requires, and I also understand that I don’t know everything there is to know.

But I am willing to learn. I’m willing to listen, ask questions, and put in the work.

Because capabilities can grow over time when ambition is backed by effort and a willingness to learn.

Anyway. Unexpected life lesson from an angry little Australian bird today. 🖤

Yesterday we packed up and headed to Iowa with my husband’s brother and his family to visit his 100-year-old grandma, Gladys Jones — a longtime Cass County resident who raised her family here before moving back over the river.

At 100 years old, she still joined us for Pirate putt putt golf and a full day of making memories with grandkids, great-grandkids, and even a future great-grandson-in-law. 💛⛳️ 🏴‍☠️

These are the good old days.

And…….

What’s a pirate’s favorite letter?

Rrrrr?

You’d think so, matey… but it’s actually the C. 🌊

(This was my middle daughter’s absolute favorite joke to tell anyone who would listen when she was 4/5. She always finished the punchline with a, “ba-dum-bum.”)

Friday my dad completed his final chemo treatment. 🎉

And because sitting still has never really been his thing… today he was already back in action helping me pass out treats at garage sales as my unofficial campaign manager. 😅

You really can’t keep this guy down.

Watching someone you love walk through cancer treatment is hard, but watching them keep their humor, stubbornness, and spirit through it all is pretty incredible.

We are so thankful for his care team, his progress, and all the people who checked in, prayed, and cheered him on along the way. 🤍

Also… my peonies decided to bloom this week, and somehow that feels fitting. 🌸
