TIRE AMNESTY EVENT is this month – The announcement through Keep Cass County Beautiful says it is open to all Cass County residents only and is a free event. Tires will be collected August 13th, 14th, and 15th 8am to 2:30pm at the Cass County Department of Roads complex at 7600 Highway 50 northwest of Weeping Water.

No metal rims are allowed, tires must be dismounted. The collection continues until it reaches 400 tons, when that cap is reached the collection will end. Dana Stahl is at 231-878-7999 or [email protected].

It was announced in December that Cass County was awarded a waste reduction tire grant. The county roads department, in joint effort with Keep Cass County Beautiful, applied for the grant from the Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy. It is a $62,578 grant.

It’s been nearly four years since the county participated in a similar program. Previous collections were limited to 250 tons.

The county board unanimously approved participation in the grant.
