⚠️ WI DMV & VERIZON SCAMS ⚠️

There have recently been several reports of WI DMV and Verizon scams occurring in Clark County. These malicious actors pose as legitimate representatives of the WI Department of Motor Vehicles, and Verizon. Here are some helpful tips to spot the scam from both the DMV, and Verizon:

WI DMV -
Common tell-tale features from recent phishing attacks include:
• Demands for money
• Requires urgent action
• Embeds malicious links
• Lists fake penalties
• Identifies as Department of Motor Vehicles, instead of Wisconsin Department of Transportation’s official Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV)
Visit wisconsindmv.gov/scams today and learn the red flags to watch for, resources to protect yourself and what to do if you think you’ve fallen victim to a scam. More info: https://wisconsindot.gov/.../news-rel/081225scamweb.aspx

Verizon -
Phone call, Text message (SMS) or email phishing scams often attempt to lure customers to input personal information and/or download virus infected programs with malicious links.

Verizon will never ask for personal or account information by email or text message. Representatives will never ask for account holder information, as it is already on file.

If you receive a suspicious call, text message, or email similar to the you should send the information to Verizon (see below for details) then DELETE IT IMMEDIATELY.

DO NOT:

Respond to the text message or email in any way
Click any links
Open any attachments
Provide any data
Receiving a suspicious message typically will not put you at risk if you do not reply, click on links, or share any personal information. Visit https://www.verizon.com/about/account-security/overview to report scam and phishing attempts.

Our last round of severe weather before a bout of quieter weather is on our doorstep for this afternoon. The storms could come in two waves, with the first wave forming as early as noon and the second wave following on its heels a few hours later. How the severe weather threat with the second wave of storms evolves will depend on whether the first wave of storms can disrupt these later storms. Nevertheless, severe weather is likely with both rounds of storms if they form. Large hail and stronger tornadoes area favored with the leading wave of storms, but tornadoes could still occur with the second storm wave in addition to damaging winds. These storms will occur when many afternoon activities will be ongoing and schools letting out, so stay weather aware today!

Stay flood aware whether it's during heavy rainfall or as rivers rise.

✅ You are safest staying indoors, or seeking higher ground if water.

✅ If you’re outside when a flash flood occurs, do not attempt to cross flood waters by vehicle or walking through it.

👉 Know possible evacuation routes.
👉 Update what needs to be in your emergency kit.

Darkness makes it difficult to see flood dangers at night.🌙

✅️ Turn around, don't drown! Do not assume a road is safe because you can't see the water clearly.
✅️ If there is a flash flood warning, seek higher ground immediately.
✅️ If your vehicle stalls in rapidly rising water, abandon it immediately and get to higher ground.
