PLEASE STAY OUT OF THE AFFECTED AREAS

We continue to see people traveling into damaged neighborhoods to look at the storm damage. This creates additional traffic, blocks access for utility crews and emergency vehicles, and makes recovery work more difficult.

Unless you live in the affected area, are assisting a resident, or are part of an official volunteer response coordinated through Volunteer Fox Cities, please stay away.

We appreciate everyone who wants to help, but please do not self-deploy. Official volunteer are being ran through Volunteer Fox Cities efforts help ensure people are sent where they are needed, have the proper information, and do not interfere with emergency and recovery operations.

Please allow residents, first responders, utility crews, public works employees, contractors, and approved volunteers the room they need to work safely.

🥾 Wear sturdy shoes with good traction. Wear long pants, layers, and gloves.
👀 Watch out for nails, broken glass, and other debris.
⚡ Stay away from downed power lines or anything near them.

The NOAA Weather Radio station WXJ-86 in La Crosse will be intermittently off the air through 4 PM Thursday July 23rd due to maintenance. You may be able to hear a neighboring weather radio station depending on your location. We apologize for any disruptions and thank you for your patience.

12:43pm | We are still on track for a developing round of thunderstorms later this afternoon, with numerous strong to severe storms by early evening (60% chance). Damaging winds will be the main threat, but large hail and tornadoes are also possible. The severe threat will diminish after 9pm. Have multiple ways to receive warnings and stay weather aware!

Unrelated good news: air quality alerts have been allowed to expire as the worst smoke concentrations have moved out of the area.

Smoky conditions as a result of wildfires across northeast MN and Ontario have contributed to unhealthy to hazardous air quality for today. Try to limit outdoor activities and stay inside, especially if you are part of a sensitive group.
