Live burn structure fire training Day 2. Heavy fire rotations with temperatures recorded up to 1300. Crews rotated in and out while given time on the nozzle as well as support.
We want to that the Chauncey FD for the invite and everyone there that made it a great two days for us of learning and real life situation.

✅Live Training Burn complete!🔥

A huge thanks to the Chauncey-Dover FD. We were able to get some of our newer firefighters a chance to “see” some fire and learn how it builds and how thermal layering can change. Afterwards, all were able to see fire progression and how it advances through the stages. It was great to train together since we fight together.

Shout out to JJ Phillips, owner of P&J Auto Repair and Docs Towing for going to Crooksville to pick up four skids of water. This water will be used all thru Athens County on BOX 5. JJ never tells us no, anytime we need something he’s one of the first to reach out, of course he will never except a dime from us for fuel or his time. He gets what the word community means and always steps up to the plate.

Day 1 Live Training Burn

Not very often do we get the chance to acquire a house for a live burn to use for training. Thanks to the Chauncey Dover FD we get a good 2 days of training in real live fire scenarios. Today small controlled fires teaching how fire builds and a little touch of some minor temps. Tomorrow will be more realistic fire with much higher temperatures and bigger fire.

A you well know we apply for literally hundreds of grants a year. The thing about grants is that if you have a 5% success rate your are considered very successful because of the competition your against for these awards.
BWC always comes thru for us and this round is no different, today we are fortunate enough to add a combination extrication tool to one of our first out trucks. This tool has the ability to “cut” and “spread” when it come to entrapment in a vehicle as well as other uses.
This tool has a cost of nearly $17,000 and with the BWC money it covers almost all of it. With the BWC grant we were able to add a floor scrubber as well as a gear dryer. (will share pics once received) Monies like this make it possible to keep state of the art tools on our trucks and in our Firefighters hands which serves you, our community, better.
Thanks To Ecstasy at the BWC and Mike at Howell Rescue for helping us along the way.

🚨🚨🚨ITS A GOOD DAY TO BE A BUCKEYE🚨🚨🚨

Always a good day when we get to go back for a little helmet signing after the Tomcats come to town. The Cats will have a good season but this year the Buckeyes were just to much. With the win comes the signing of the helmet (not awarded in a loss).
This year was tough to just name one on each side of the ball and we had a unique situation as well.
This years Game one MVPs are

And we said a unique situation this year, many of our undercover informant made mention of a player that had a great game on both sides of the ball and that goes to

Grant Elliott.

Congratulations to the entire team, this could have easily been the entire offensive line or several other players. Good luck the rest of the way Buckeyes.

A few months ago we were blessed to receive our new drone. A piece of equipment that allows us to cover miles and miles of ground in minutes. On August 17th around 11:30 PM we were toned for BOX 5 and our drone unit. Once arriving on scene our drone pilot Evan Dishong had the orders from the incident command and had the drone in the air within minutes. Evan was able to use the infrared camera to search over 4 miles in about 30 minutes.
Drone use in the emergency service today is a must, you take real people and their life safety completely out of situations that you would normally put a person. Along with the livery safety part the time that it saves can be the difference between life and death.
Great job from Firefighter Evan Dishong and the rest of the folks that spend a good portion of their night searching for this woman. By the way the woman was found later and she was safe.

Search Conducted for Reported Missing Female in Hocking River
On August 16, 2026, at approximately 11:12 p.m., the Athens City Police Department responded to the West State Street Ball Fields near the Hocking River for a report of an unknown female who was reportedly in or near the river. First responders initiated an extensive search of the area with boats and drones. The search continued for several hours and involved multiple law enforcement, fire, EMS, and public safety agencies. Despite the efforts of responding personnel, the female was not located.

Ohio State Highway Patrol

Nelsonville Fire Department

The Athens City Police Department appreciates the coordinated response and assistance provided by all of the agencies involved in the search. The investigation and efforts to identify and locate the female remain ongoing. Anyone with information that may assist investigators is encouraged to contact the Athens City Police Department at 740-592-3313.

Buchtel folks

Please prepare your dogs, cats, and animals appropriately tomorrow night for our annual MEET THE TEAM at the Buchtel Park. The event will start at 8PM and fireworks are scheduled to start between 845 & 900. We would guess the show will last about 20 minutes with a HUGE ENDING. The Cheesman Brothers will again put on a show for our student athletes that they won’t forget.
