We Hate Pop Country

We Hate Pop Country

On August 8th of 1975, Hank Williams Jr. fell approximately 540 down Ajax Mountain while descending the mountainside as he was hiking with friends Dick, and his 11 year old son Walt Willey, who remained with Hank while he slipped in and out of consciousness as Walt's father sought help. Hank would awake days later from his coma with dear friend Johnny and godmother June Carter Cash at his bedside.

Doctors predicted that Hank wouldn't make it through the evening when arriving that night, but after he survived, they believed he'd never sing again. But as the old saying goes, "the rest is history." Hank would undergo more than a dozen surgeries throughout the next decade while still touring vigorously, but not before taking some time off to hideout in the Montana mountains in his favorite cabin, which is where some of his greatest musical material to date was written and recorded. That's also where Hank adapted his signature look of the hat, beard and sunglasses to disguise the fresh scars, and regular surgical procedures he was receiving. He would later return to the peak of Ajax Mountain after making a full recovery to prove that "A Country Boy Can Survive."
