The Neoga Police Department is seeking candidates for the position of school resource officer. This officer’s primary responsibility will be to collaborate with all stakeholders in an effort to build relationships, prevent crime, provide training on public safety topics, participate in safety planning, appropriately investigate criminal activity, enforce the law appropriately, and assist administration in maintaining the safest learning environment possible.

This position is a full time position and will include benefits. Anyone interested in applying please submit a resume to Chief Schabbing in person or by email at [email protected].

-The minimum fine for violating Scott’s Law will increase from $100 to $250 for the first violation, and $750 for the second violation.

-Those who violate Scott’s Law and cause an injury or death will be charged with a Class 4 felony.

-The Scott’s Law Fund will be created to educate motorists on the importance of Scott’s Law. This will be funded by a $250 assessment fee for any violation of Scott's Law.

Scott's Law applies to drivers approaching any police or other emergency vehicle stopped along the roadway. When approaching an officer's vehicle with flashing lights, drivers are ordered to change lanes (if possible), reduce speed and proceed with caution.

On Friday October 14 while on routine patrol, Neoga Police discovered an open door at a residence. The Officer called the property owner and advised them of the open door. The officer shut the door and departed the scene. It was later discovered that there were some items missing from the residence.

Through our investigation Neoga Police Department was able to identify two juvenile suspects. Criminal charges in this case are pending. Due to the suspects being juveniles their names will not be released.

On July 7, the Neoga Police Department, with the assistance of the Coles County Crisis Response Team, arrested Ethan Beck of Mattoon on an original arrest warrant for Armed robbery.

The arrest was the result of an investigation conducted by the Neoga Police Department steming from an incident which occurred on July 5th.

Neoga Police Department would like to thank the Coles County CRT and the Mattoon Police Department for their assistance. This investigation is on-going and further arrest and charges may follow.

Saturday, May 21, 2022 ~~ 8:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
Parking lot across from the Municipal Building/Library

• This is for Neoga residents within corporate limits only. You must
bring a current water bill and driver’s license or ID with you (as
proof of residency).

• We will take electronics this year. There will be a $5 charge per
item. If we have room on the trailer, we will accept items from
outside of City limits. The cost for those items will be
$10 each.

• We will not have the shredding truck this year.

GENERAL ITEMS

• We cannot take paint or thinners, tires, oils, fuels, car parts,
burnt material, yard waste, concrete, bricks, dirt, rocks, etc…
