Did You Know? Your Ceiling Fan Has a Summer Setting

As temperatures rise, your ceiling fan can help keep you comfortable while reducing the workload on your air conditioner.

βœ… In the summer, set your fan to spin counterclockwise. This creates a wind-chill effect that makes the room feel cooler.

βœ… Because you feel cooler, you may be able to raise your thermostat a few degrees without sacrificing comfort.

How many of you have checked your ceiling fan direction this year?

Before you plug it in, take a second look.

Small electrical hazards are often easy to miss until they become a bigger problem. As National Electrical Safety Month comes to a close, here are a few quick things to check around your home this weekend:

β€’ Frayed or damaged cords
β€’ Overloaded power strips
β€’ Outlets that feel warm to the touch
β€’ Extension cords being used long term
β€’ Smoke detectors needing new batteries

A few minutes of prevention can help protect your home, your family and your peace of mind.

At New-Mac Electric Cooperative, safety is always a priority.

It is National Electrical Safety Month and we wanted to share a few reminders for maintaining electrical safety at home:

β€’ Avoid using batteries or electronic devices that are not certified.
β€’ Use manufacturer approved charging equipment whenever possible, including the charging cord designed for your device.
β€’ Make sure outlet receptacles are secure and not loose. If needed, contact a qualified electrician for replacement.
β€’ Avoid overloading electrical circuits. Major appliances should be plugged directly into a wall outlet, not an extension cord, and only one heat producing appliance should be plugged into a receptacle outlet at a time.

Simple safety habits can help keep your home and workplace safe year-round.

More You Know Monday

Did you know electric cooperatives power 56% of the American landscape?

Co-ops serve 42 million people, including many rural communities that other providers often overlook. They also power more than 22 million homes, farms, schools, and businesses across 48 states.

Because electric cooperatives are member owned and not for profit, more than $1 billion is returned to consumer-members annually.

For 87 years, New-Mac Electric Cooperative has been proud to be part of that mission by providing safe, reliable, and affordable electricity to the communities we serve.

Today, we remember and honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Their sacrifice made the freedoms we enjoy each day possible.

As we gather with family and friends this Memorial Day, we pause in gratitude for those who served with courage and never made it home.

From all of us at New-Mac Electric Cooperative, thank you to the heroes and families who have sacrificed so much for our nation. πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ
