Celebrating survivors! And to those who are in the battle, your community supports you, your recovery, and all who are impacted by this terrible disease.

This Cancer Survivors Day at Rutgers Cancer Institute and RWJBarnabas Health, we honor the extraordinary strength and resilience of those who have faced cancer and continue to move forward with courage, hope, and determination.

Each journey is unique and serves a powerful reminder of what’s possible through compassionate, patient-centered care, groundbreaking research, and the unwavering support of families, caregivers, and care teams.

We are continually inspired by our survivors and their strength. Their experiences fuel our commitment to advancing care, expanding access to innovative treatments, and supporting every patient beyond diagnosis.

Today, we celebrate cancer survivors, their resilience, and their courage. πŸ’™β€οΈ

This past week I joined fellow Mayors Mayor John Napolitani, Mayor Kevin McMillan, Mayor John Moor, Councilwoman Caitlin Donovan and Mayor Don Fetzer for a meeting with the new leadership at the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), Commissioner Ed Potosnak and Deputy Commissioner Joseph Seebode, for a roundtable discussion about concerns and priorites in our area.

The Resilient Environment and Landscapes (REAL) rules were a topic we discussed with the Commissioner, as well as coastal flooding, stormwater mitigation in our local lakes and resiliency of our coastline including the Shark River.

We discussed concerns about the unintended impacts of REAL rules on routine repairs and maintenance of local properties and smart growth development. We also shared concerns about increased intensity of storms and rising sea levels and the need to balance regulation with the practical concerns of residents and businesses. For those reasons, I am happy to see Commissioner Potosnak's announcement to delay provisions of the REAL rule by one year. This is the correct decision to allow the State to further engage local government and the public to ensure the rules balance safety, community, development and infrastructure, while achieving our shared environmental goals.

Thank you for listening and engaging with us, New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection.

I was thrilled to deliver contributions for the Woodrow Wilson Pirates Student Activity fund to help cover the costs of the 7th and 8th Grade trip to Washington, DC.

Thank you to major sponsors Alamo Insurance, Leon Avakian and Neptune Realty Associates! Your investment in our children will have a lasting imapct. Studies show that school trips result in more engaged, intellectually curious and confident students both in and out of school.
We appreciate the generous support for our kids!
