Early this morning, the Neptune Township Office of Emergency Management HazMat responding to McDonald’s on RT 35 in Neptune for a reported e-bike fire. Upon arrival, an active e-bike fire was observed close to the gas utility for the building. The fire was extinguished and Neptune FD moved the bike away from the utilities. NTOEM HazMat Technicians worked to remove and safely package the damaged battery cells for proper disposal. The business was closed for the duration of the incident, which remains under investigation by the Neptune Township Fire Marshall’s Office and NTPD.

⚠️⛈️ Scattered thunderstorms are forecast to develop across the region again today and tonight. The exact timing and coverage of any severe storms is uncertain, as it will be conditional on how the stable surface air evolves. Storms could linger well into the night. Cooler today, but remaining humid. Stay weather aware!

Today (Tuesday) after 4:00PM, scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop across NJ. Isolated strong storms will bring the potential for damaging winds, heavy rain, and an elevated chance for the development of tornadoes. The main hazards will be the potential for flash flooding due to periods of heavy rain, as well as gusty winds. Please monitor your local weather forecast closely, especially if you are planning outdoor activities. Most importantly, if flash flooding does occur, DO NOT DRIVE THROUGH FLOODED ROADS.

Ensure you have a reliable method of receiving weather notifications from the National Weather Service. Residents are encouraged to sign up to receive alerts specific to Neptune Township, including current NWS warnings, by texting “neptunealert” to 888777. If you lose power, report it directly to JCP&L. If you observe an emergency such as a downed power line or a tree blocking a road, call 911.

LET'S TALK FLOODING & TORNADO THURSDAY

☝️ First thing, if you are in a beach town or going to a beach town, it should be DRY Thursday. That is not for you.

🫵This is for those who are inland. And, honestly, it's those in places like Freehold, Jackson, Hammonton or Vineland. The GSP corridor is mostly fine.

🌪️For the second Thursday in a row, a tornado may spin through NJ. The ingredients are there... Directional wind shear, CAPE (thunderstorm juice). Know where you'd need to shelter NOW just in case they come later.

⛈️ Flooding rain threatens but really in places that see multiple thunderstorms today. That looks to be the NJ Turnpike and northwest. I really don't see much flooding in the shore counties, but can't rule it out in western Monmouth/Ocean counties.

🗓️ More thunderstorms come Friday. This should be for everywhere, beaches included. Damaging winds are possible, but I don't really see flooding rain.
