Last Wednesday, our volunteers participated in a forcible door entry training at CAL FIRE Station 42 on Columbia Hill, which also helps cover our district. We appreciate their partnership and the opportunity to train alongside their crew.

Forcible door entry is a vital skill on the fireground. When seconds count, firefighters must be able to gain access to a structure quickly and with as little damage as possible.

This training focused on using “the irons”, a tool set made up of a Halligan bar and a flat-head axe. When used correctly, the irons allow firefighters to make entry in under 30 seconds, giving them a direct path to extinguish a fire and, most importantly, save lives.

Hands-on training like this builds skill, confidence, and teamwork—core elements of effective emergency response.

Interested in being part of your local fire department?
We invite community members to join us for our Wednesday night trainings. It’s a great way to see what we do, meet the team, and get a feel for what it’s like to serve with the North San Juan Volunteer Fire Department. No experience is necessary—just bring your curiosity and community spirit.

We hope to see you there! 🚒🔥

🚫✈ Wildfire airspace is part of the fire line. Keep it clear.

A single UAS (uncrewed aircraft system), such as a drone, can shut down firefighting aerial firefighting operations. Even a small drone poses a huge risk—it can cause a midair collision that could damage an aircraft or even cause it to crash.

When a drone is spotted, firefighting aircraft can be ordered to ground for safety. That means water and retardant drops stop, crews are sidelined, and the fire gains valuable time to spread—threatening homes, communities, and firefighters on the ground.

Flying a drone within 15 miles of smoke columns or where aircraft are scooping water isn’t just illegal—it’s reckless. Your drone could be the reason critical firefighting resources are forced to stand down.

🔥 Ground your drone. Let us do our job—because if you fly, we can’t.
