Why are Building and Fire Codes Important?

First of all building codes are the minimum way to build something.

It is easy for people to have a negative view of the building codes; most of the time, because of their financial impact.

Codes exist in order to protect the life, health and safety of the individuals who will inhabit the buildings and structures that are created within countries / states / regions / districts / cities.

Building codes are as old as the Bible, where there were instructions related to the need to insure that people did not fall off of roofs. This protection was accomplished by way of constructing parapets. The modern building code still carries this ancient requirement today.

So think about these things the next time you think codes are stupid, you’re getting picked on or you want to cut corners.

What is life, health and safety of your family worth?

The next time you carry your family out shopping, dining out, going to the movies or an event. I’m sure you would feel better if the building was at least built to the minimum code.
