Barbara Ann Lessel

Barbara Ann Lessel, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and devoted friend, peacefully passed away in her home surrounded by family on September 1, 2026, at the age of 83. Born on June 4, 1943, at Shands Hospital in New Albany, Mississippi, Barbara grew up on a farm in Cotton Plant. After graduating high school, she married the love of her life, Robert, and eventually they settled in Blue Springs, MS, where her spirit and love for family flourished.

Barbara began her career in the art of sewing at the shirt factory in Sherman. She took a break from sewing to be a homemaker and raise their seven children. Later, after spending over 20 years at Hunter Sadler she transitioned to furniture upon their closure. Her true calling was found in her role as a loving mother, described by her children and many others as "the best mom in the world." She filled her home with warmth, kindness, and endless love, always putting others first.

Barbara's love extended beyond just her immediate family. She was known for her remarkable culinary skills, and was known for always having brownies for anyone who popped in. She had a cherished moment spent making pickles with her grandson Will, delightfully labeling the jars "Will's Dills." Her muscadine jelly, fig and pear preserves were family favorites, a testament to her love and dedication to nurturing those around her. Barbara loved music, reading and traveling. Gardening was another passion of Barbara's, where she cultivated both beautiful blooms and treasured memories.

Barbara is survived by her sons Alan Lessel and David Lessel (Connie), daughters Carol Owen (Mac), Donna Dudas (John), Janet Stecher(John), and Ginger Ragan (Ashley) and Amy Hutcheson (Alan) and her sisters Mary Haynes (John), Jane Davis, Frances Lamb, Virginia Roberts, and Beth Hill (Wes). Her legacy of love and compassion will continue to resonate within the hearts of her family and friends. Barbara was preceded in death by her late husband Robert Lessel, parents William Warrington and Allene Gullett and a brother Bill Warrington.

In celebration of Barbara's life, visitation will be held on Thursday, September 3, 2026 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Glenfield Funeral Home. On Friday, September 4, 2026, a visitation will be held from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, leading into the funeral service at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow at Glenfield Memorial Park, where family and friends will gather to honor a remarkable woman who truly loved and embraced life. Service will be officiated by James Steele and Phil Sparks.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Rick Olonovich, Michael Olonovich, Stephen Dudas, Zach Dudas, Justin Mcdonnal, Josh McDonnal, Will Ragan and Andrew Lessel.

Barbara Ann Lessel will be deeply missed but will forever be celebrated for her unwavering love for family, her generosity of spirit, and her ability to bring joy to those around her.

Barbara enjoyed getting beautiful flowers, but also her country, and those who fought for our freedoms. If you so choose, in lieu of flowers you can make a donation to keep the American and our military flags flying proudly next to their gravesite.

Byron Sloan

Byron "Buddy" F. Sloan, beloved brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 26, 2026, at the age of 87. A lifelong resident of Myrtle, MS, Byron was born on October 4, 1938, and lived a life filled with love, memories, and service to his family and country.

Buddy graduated from Center High School in 1957, fondly reminiscing about his senior trip on a school bus to the Grand Canyon, an adventure that stayed with him throughout his life. He served in the Army National Guard for six years, a period he cherished as a time of growth and camaraderie. Following his military service, Buddy dedicated himself to an honorable career as a truck driver for Barber Dairy, where he was known for his kindness and dependable nature. He loved woodworking. Some of things he made were bird houses and cedar chest. He was also a 47th year Master Mason. He was saved and Baptized at Wallerville Baptist Church. He was then a member at Hillcrest Baptist Church for many years. His favorite verse was John 3:16.

For over 30 years, he shared a beautiful and enduring partnership with his beloved late wife, Linda Sloan. Their love for each other was evident to all who knew them, and he often spoke of her as the love of his life.

Buddy's devotion to his family extended beyond his marriage; he was a proud father to his daughter Tracy Douell and son Anthony Douell, William Sloan and Scott Sloan, stepson Scotty Jarvis. He was a doting grandfather to Joseph Jarvis (Katie), Dusty Jarvis (Nichole), and Cali Douell. His legacy of love continues with his sister Mildred Garrett and his great-grandchildren: Anderson Jarvis, Katherine Jarvis, Phoenix Jarvis, Konner Jarvis, Kaylynn Jarvis, Caden Smith, and Jaxston Smith.

As we gather to honor Buddy's remarkable life, we take solace in the thought that he is now reunited with his wife Linda and his beloved cat, Fuzzball. He is also preceded in death by his parents Byron Sloan Sr and Louise Sappington Sloan.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Glenfield Funeral Home, with a celebration of life funeral service following at 1:00 PM at Glenfield Funeral Home. Services will be officiated by Don Chandler.

Pallbearers will be: Dustin Jarvis, Don Dabney, Dale Manning, Ricky Jordan, Robin Moore and Jason McGaha. Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Joshlin, James Hamlin, Kenny Page, William Bramlett, Hollis Rakestraw, Lavern Ketchum, Andy Bynum and Paul Vick.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Buddy's memory, honoring the generosity he shared throughout his life.
