We recently had a great day at Prosser Career Education Center during their Criminal Justice and Fire Rescue Field Day!

The event was a huge success, and we enjoyed spending time with students who are interested in serving their communities through public safety careers.

Our Officers had the opportunity to talk with the next generation of public servants about career opportunities with the Floyd County Sheriff's Office, answer questions about law enforcement, and demonstrate some of the tools and equipment we use every day.

Thank you to the students, instructors, and staff at Prosser Career Education Center for inviting us to participate. We appreciate the chance to help inspire and educate future law enforcement, corrections, and communications proffesionals.

We look forward to seeing where these talented students' careers take them! 🚔👮‍♂️🚒

Sometimes the champ has to remind everyone who’s holding the belt.

Lt. Shultz (SRO HHMS) took a victory lap through the middle school lunchroom with the RPS (Rock, Paper Scissors) Championship Belt today. The reaction?

A healthy mix of boos, laughter, and accusations that the title was never legitimately earned. 😂

That’s okay. Every great champion has critics.

Happy last day of school to all our students. Enjoy your summer—and remember, the belt remains undisputed until further notice!

🚨 MOVE OVER. CLEAR THE ROAD. SAVE LIVES. 🚨

With major construction traffic and roadway congestion increasing throughout Floyd County soon, the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office wants to remind drivers about Indiana’s “Move Over” law for crashes and disabled vehicles.

Under Indiana Code § 9-26-1-1.2, drivers involved in a crash on a government-maintained roadway are required to immediately and safely move their vehicles off the traveled portion of the roadway whenever possible.

✅ IF YOUR VEHICLE IS DRIVABLE AND SAFE TO MOVE:
• Move your vehicle to the shoulder, emergency lane, parking lot, or another safe location nearby.
• Turn on hazard lights.
• Call 911 and wait safely away from traffic if possible.

❌ DO NOT MOVE YOUR VEHICLE IF:
• Someone is injured or killed
• Someone is trapped inside a vehicle
• Hazardous materials are involved

WHY THIS LAW MATTERS:

Many secondary crashes happen after the initial accident because vehicles remain blocking travel lanes. A minor fender-bender can quickly become a serious or fatal crash when traffic suddenly stops or drivers are forced to swerve.

Moving vehicles safely out of traffic:
✔ Protects crash victims
✔ Protects first responders
✔ Prevents additional collisions
✔ Reduces traffic backups and gridlock
✔ Keeps emergency vehicles moving

With increased construction zones and heavier traffic expected across Floyd County, even small crashes can create dangerous traffic hazards in seconds.

Remember:
👉 If it’s safe and your vehicle can move — MOVE IT.

Help us keep Floyd County roads safe for everyone.
