PERS members, wake up. Our future income is in danger. The majority of the Senators would like to get complete control of OUR retirement funds. (Our Representatives have already slipped it by us during Spring Break.)
Please make a personal call to a Senator. Remind them that you voted for them to represent you. Ask them to vote against HB #1590.

Those of you who have planned to retire from PERS (state, county, or city employees; teachers; and many others) or are currently retired with PERS should be very aware of the legislation which is being pushed through extremely quickly in Jackson right now. The House passed HB 1590 on a “fast track” to get to the governor’s desk as quickly as possible, possibly before any actual voters have time to know the bill exists or what it contains. The bill would do away with the current PERS Board which oversees the system and replace every member with political appointees, except two token members who are actually members of PERS.
I think anyone looking at the issue honestly knows what this means.
Mississippi House of Representatives has already passed HB 1590 and the Mississippi Senate now has it. If you do not think this is a good bill, then you have only a very small window of time before the Mississippi Senate acts. Please contact your Senator and any Senator that you know and ask them not to pass this bill.

Susan Feather, President of the Retired Education Personnel of MS, informs its members that the 2020 September, October and November meetings are postponed. We look forward to returning to meeting in February 2021. As our 2020 yearbook encourages us -
