New Athens District Library

During Safe Kids Day Spring 2026, the New Athens District Library provided our community the opportunity to learn skills and gain education to be safe and keep our kids safe at home and in the community. We provided families with enough Child ID Kits to protect 26 of our children. We also had Certified Car Seat Safety Inspectors here for 2 hours checking seat and giving education. 10 kids participated in our Safe at Home program and 5 young people became SafeSitter Certified. Our last Teen Advisory Board Meeting went really well. We brainstormed event ideas and shared thoughts on Summer Reading Program prize ideas. We also welcomed Stephanie Bevely, a Community Affairs Specialist for the Illinois State Treasurer's Office, who gave a presentation on the Cream of the Crop Photography Scholarship Contest. Our next TAB meeting will be held in the fall, so watch for more information about that to come soon.

Dungeons and Dragons Library League is Tomorrow at 4 PM.

Every 2nd Monday of the Month 4-6 pm Recommended Ages 11-18
We will be continuing a level 1 adventure and providing all necessary materials. All abilities welcome. If you have your own Character feel free to bring it, if not we will have premade characters available for use. Call 618-475-9384

Cook the Books this month was delicious! Join us next month for "The Complete Summer Cookbook" From America's Test Kitchen. Choose a recipe from this book and bring the dish to share on June 2 at 6PM. Food is Prepared in home kitchens not subject to inspection. Food may contain allergens. Attendees choosing to partake of the food/drink available during the event do so at their own risk.

Join the New Athens District Library for Safe Kids Day This Saturday May 9 from 1-4 pm. we will be having many opportunities for you and your family to improve safety in your home. We will be having Intro to Babysitting and Safe at Home alone programs for youth. Welcome to Cook the Books, where foodies meet to explore the art of cooking. Each month we’ve chosen a new cookbook to try, and we have always got something for everyone. Create mouth-watering dishes at home, then come to the library to enjoy a meal together with all the recipes that patrons chose to make.
