The train is coming as well as great biking and walking lanes

The lazy days of summer may be upon us, but the Planning Department has been busy collaborating with a variety of consultants, state and city departments and the community to develop varied transportation plans. The South Coast Rail Planning continues to ensure a healthy mix of appropriate development near the platform stations, (Yes-the train is coming) The Blue Lane Working Waterfront Connector Feasibility Study on Herman Melville Boulevard builds upon the city's successful shared path system along the waterfront and examines infrastructure improvements to continue and connect this shared path between the downtown waterfront and the north end at Coggeshall Street. We are always excited to advance multi-modal transportation and provide a variety of transit options to the public!

This letter is a wonderful example of one of the many ways that our HNS data can be used to paint a picture of the resident experience of living in your communities, and of how we can come together as a community (mid-crisis) to shape a helpful message.
The letter can be found at the top of our CLF-HNS website: https://www.clf.org/healthy-neighborhoods-study/.
I also encourage you to take a look at the fact sheet/executive summary, also linked in the document.

Responding to COVID-19 The Healthy Neighborhoods Study offers data and recommendations from our partner communities to guide decision-makers and communities as they work together to respond to COVID-19 in ways that equitably and effectively meet the needs of vulnerable populations and places. MassBike

MassBike is on a mission to shine bright lights across the Commonwealth.
As the autumn season turns darker, MassBike will be out for our #LightsBrigade campaign! Starting in October, we'll be on the streets throughout MA flagging down ninja bikers and handing out sets of bike lights to keep people safe and legal out there!

Help us raise the funds necessary to get these lights out to riders!
Every $10 raised gets us a set of lights (and some coffee for the volunteers!). We won't stop until every biker is bright!

Want to help distribute lights with us? Email [email protected] and we'll let you know more details!

Mass in Motion New Bedford

Come join Bike NB!! This week!!! Saturday - October 5th! 🚴‍♂️🚴‍♀️The event will showcase New Bedford’s commitment to bicycle planning for public health and outdoor recreation with safety demos from the police and networking with regional bike advocacy groups, food, games, and 3 fun ride loops (3mile, 5 mile, and 13 mile) to get to know the local bike paths.

For some of us, cycling is a sport, a hobby or an eco-friendly mode of transportation, but cycling also has an important role to play in terms of public health. Growing evidence indicates that bicycle-specific infrastructure including off-street bike paths, residential bikeways and cycle tracks (like Harbor walk) offer substantial safety benefits and increase bicycling. Additionally, providing more cycling training for residents and for schools helps to encourage children to learn to ride bicycles so that they become lifelong cyclists.
