🚨New equipment alert!🚨

Yesterday, New Bedford EMS placed two Sapphire IV Pumps into service. Deployed on our rapid response vehicles these pumps will now allow our paramedics to administer more medications to our patients in their time of need.

Paramedics now have access to Norepinephrine, a life-saving medication which can be given to patients with low blood pressure or who are in shock. In addition to the Norepinephrine our paramedics now have access to IV Nitroglycerin, a medication used for patients with severe difficulty breathing due to congestive heart failure and fluid in the lungs.

We owe a large thanks to our Medical Directors from Southcoast Health Dr. Bivens and Dr. Morris for their help and allowing us through the State's Medical Director Options to carry these medications.

These new medications and equipment again highlight the commitment New Bedford EMS is making to our community. Healthcare is changing and evolving, here at NBEMS we are committed to changing and evolving with it!

Another year another Feast!

While this picture only shows some of the providers on the feast grounds, there were 23 EMT's and Paramedics in total who provided the EMS stand-by over the four days! This allowed us to have three ambulances and a medical assessment tent on site all weekend.

From Thursday to Sunday, they all assisted feast goers and treated a variety of medical complaints in and around the feast grounds, thankfully nothing to serious.

It always seems the Feast signifies the end of the summer, but there is still more to come for our summer here at New Bedford EMS!

Hey New Bedford!

You know what's coming next week! The 2026 Feast of the Blessed Sacrament, or as you know it "THE FEAST"

New Bedford EMS will be on site providing medical coverage for the duration of the weekend. The weather looks like it's going to be hot and sunny. (subject to change thanks to it being New England)

A couple reminders from New Bedford EMS to you!

- Stay hydrated
- Stay with your group and have a planned meeting location if you get separated
- Plan early for travel in the area of the Feast, traffic backs up are the norm
- If you see something, say something! Safety of this event relies on everyone
- Most importantly have fun, see old friends and make new ones!

While we love seeing everyone in the community, we hope it isn't in the back of one of our ambulances. Come by say hello to our providers and meet the professionals who are out in your community!

This Sunday, June 28th, is the Whaling City Triathlon! Taking place in the south end on the peninsula. Minor disruptions to the normal Sunday morning routine are expected. See the attached post for the full race route.

New Bedford EMS will be on site for the race and plans have been made should there be any emergencies along the course.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the City of Boston this weekend. A difficult weekend for multiple departments.

Boston EMS is mourning the loss of Superintendent-in-Chief John Gill. As well as Boston Fire mourning the LODD of Firefighter Robert Kilduff, Jr.

Both served the City of Boston for years with distinction and honor. Our sincerest condolences are with the City of Boston as they navigate this loss.

This week, May 17th to May 23rd is EMS week!

Started in 1974 by President Gerald Ford the 3rd week of May was designated as EMS Week. Implemented to recognize and celebrate EMS providers across the nation for the work and care they provide daily to their communities.

As with every year on EMS week there is a theme, this year is improving outcomes, together. Highlighting the importance of the collaborative efforts that makes EMS what we know it is today. Investing in continuing education, mental health resources as well as leadership that listens and acts.

This week we intend to pull back the curtain and show you a little more behind the scenes of New Bedford EMS and what makes us who we are and what we have been doing to improve outcomes, together.

Happy Mother’s Day from us here at New Bedford EMS!

To the moms that fill our ranks, including the dog moms and Team Moms. Leaving your loved ones at home to come and provided the compassionate care EMS demands every shift. We thank you and recognize you today.

A special recognition to the moms of all our providers, who raised children who now go out and work in a demanding field supporting and caring for others in their time of need. We thank you as well!
