🚑🚨 EMS WEEK CONTINUES🚨🚑

As we continue celebrating EMS Week, Local 4724 would like to recognize someone who plays a huge role in the success of our paramedics and the care our community receives — Dr. Tom Engel, our Medical Director and Emergency Room Physician with Froedtert & The Medical College of WI.

To say we are blessed to have Doc Engel is an understatement. His passion and enthusiasm for prehospital medicine are absolutely contagious. As an active member of the military, Doc brings both combat medicine experience and hospital emergency medicine expertise to the table, giving our members a truly unique and invaluable perspective.

Doc is far more than just a name on a protocol book. He is deeply involved in every aspect of our EMS system — from education and training, to writing protocols, office hours, call reviews, and even responding on calls alongside our crews when he’s around. He trusts our paramedics to perform high-level skills and continually pushes us to grow as clinicians and professionals.

Our members are better providers because of his leadership, mentorship, and support. The citizens of New Berlin are incredibly fortunate to have a physician so dedicated to advancing emergency medical care in our community.

Thank you, Doc Engel, for everything you do for Local 4724, our paramedics, and the people we serve. Happy EMS Week!

Local 4724 would like to congratulate Executive Board member Derrick Oleson on his promotion to Lieutenant!

While Derrick is most commonly recognized for being ridiculously tall, those who know him know he’s also an outstanding firefighter, paramedic, leader, and overall great guy.

Derrick has always been dedicated to both the job and continuing his education, earning both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees while proudly serving this community. Over the years, we’ve had the privilege of watching him grow into a respected leader who leads by example and constantly works to better himself and those around him.

This promotion is well deserved, and we couldn’t be more proud of him and this accomplishment. We’re excited to see Lt. Oleson thrive in his new role and continue making a positive impact on our department and community.

Congrats, Ole! 👏🚒

🚑 🚨EMS WEEK FUN FACT 🚨🚑

Did you know that having Paramedic-level care in your community can literally mean the difference between life and death before a patient ever reaches the hospital?

Your Local 4724 Paramedics are trained to provide advanced life-saving interventions right in your home, on the roadside, or wherever an emergency happens. From administering critical medications and interpreting 12-lead ECGs, to managing airways, stopping severe allergic reactions, treating overdoses, cardiac arrests, strokes, and traumatic injuries — advanced care starts the moment we arrive.

In emergency medicine, minutes matter. Having highly trained Paramedics responding in your community means advanced treatment doesn’t wait until the ER doors open.

This EMS Week, we’re proud to recognize the dedication, education, and commitment our members bring to the citizens we serve.
