📞 TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES – PHONE SERVICE

Good morning, Craven County Schools families and community!

Several of our schools in the eastern part of the district, including Creekside Elementary, Brinson Memorial Elementary, and Bridgeton Elementary, are currently experiencing phone service issues. At this time, incoming and outgoing calls are not going through at the affected schools.

We are aware of the issue and are actively working with our service provider to restore phone service as quickly as possible.

We will share an update once service has been restored.

📚 LEARNING, LEADING & LOOKING AHEAD!

Today, our school principals gathered for a morning dedicated to professional learning, collaboration, and preparing for continued success throughout the 2026–2027 school year.

Dr. Matthew Cheeseman, Superintendent, opened the meeting by setting the tone for a great year and sharing resources and goal-setting tools designed to support both student and staff success.

Our Curriculum & Instruction Team took a deeper dive into data and accountability, encouraging school leaders to look at results through a new lens, using what we learn to guide decisions, strengthen instruction, and identify opportunities for growth.

A special thank you to everyone who shared their expertise, resources, and valuable information throughout the morning. Every conversation and learning opportunity keeps the focus where it belongs-on teaching, learning, and student success!
Also, a round of applause to JT Barber Elementary for being our host site.💚

The Craven County Schools Transportation Department has scheduled its next Bus Driver Class! If you want to make a difference for our students and community, this is your opportunity to join our team.

📅 Bus Driver Class Details

Dates: September 14, 15, and 16, 2026 (Attendance on all three days is mandatory to complete coursework)

Time: 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. daily

Location: DMV Driver’s License Office (1001 Downey Drive, New Bern, NC 28562)

🏈💛 COMMUNITY PARTNERS MAKING A DIFFERENCE! 💛🏈

A huge THANK YOU to the Rotary Club of New Bern for its generous $1,500 contribution to Havelock High School’s Athletic Program!

This donation was made possible through the Pigskin Classic, an event that brings together area football programs while creating an opportunity to give back and support our student-athletes.

We are incredibly grateful for community partners like the Rotary Club of New Bern who continue to invest in our schools and students. Your generosity helps provide meaningful opportunities and experiences for our student-athletes both on and off the field.

We’re still in all the feelings as we settle into the first week of school!

It was another GREAT day across Craven County Schools, and we are so glad to be getting back into a routine focused on what matters most, student success! 📚✨

From setting goals for the year and getting to know one another to sharing favorite things and building relationships, our students and staff are already laying the foundation for an amazing year ahead.

🎉 WHAT A WONDERFUL FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL!

Even a downpour at dismissal couldn’t dampen the excitement of a wonderful first day! 🌧️💗

It was so great to see our students, staff, and families back together as we kicked off a brand-new school year.

Our staff was excited to welcome students back into their classrooms and get started with another year of learning, growing, and making memories.

The first day of school truly feels like a special holiday, and we loved seeing all of the smiles, hugs, laughter, excitement, and first-day pictures throughout our schools today. 📚✨

We are off to a GREAT start, and we are looking forward to an incredible year ahead!
