πŸŒΏπŸ¦‰ Beyond the Walls… and Into the Heart of Our School πŸ¦‰πŸŒΏ

Today, the amazing members of Centenary United Methodist Church put their faith into action through their Beyond the Walls service project. Instead of gathering inside the church, they spent their Sunday serving the community, and Oaks Road Academy was blessed to be one of those projects.

What started as spreading mulch and cleaning out a trailer turned into something much bigger. When we realized we were nearly 60 bags short of completing the project, several volunteers generously purchased additional mulch so the work could be finished. That kind of kindness and commitment cannot be measured.

There is a concept called the Broken Windows Theory, the idea that when spaces are cared for, people are more likely to care for them. When we clean up our surroundings, we create pride, hope, and a sense of ownership. Children notice when their school is beautiful. Staff notice. Families notice. A cared for environment communicates that the people inside matter.

Today was not just about mulch and cleanup. It was about sending a message to every child who walks through our doors: You are worth the effort. You are loved. This place matters because you matter.

To every volunteer who gave up their Sunday, pushed wheelbarrows, spread mulch, cleaned, organized, sweated, laughed, and served, thank you. Your hands helped beautify our campus, but your hearts made an even bigger impact.

ORA is incredibly grateful for our partnership with Centenary and for a community that continues to show up for our students again and again. We are so very thankful for Mrs. Gayle Midyette for organizing all of the volunteer at ORA!!! We are so very thankful for every volunteer from Centenary that volunteer weekly at ORA πŸ¦‰!!!

πŸ’™ Together, we are building more than a school.
πŸ’™ We are building a community where children know they are valued.

The 5th Grade Clap Out. πŸ’šπŸ¦‰

How do you know children were loved well?

They cry their way out of the school building.

In 20 years in education, this is the very first time I have watched an entire class of students sob as they walked out the doors for the last time as elementary students. That moment spoke volumes.

And while this post is about our students, it also proves something I have been saying since I walked into this building in January:

THE TEACHERS AT ORA LOVE THESE KIDS SO VERY WELL.

Our staff has poured their hearts into these children through every lesson, every hug, every hard conversation, every celebration, every encouragement, and every moment in between. You cannot fake the kind of relationships that lead to tears like that on the last day.

5th grade, thank you for letting us love you. Once an Owlette, always an Owlette. We are so proud of you and cannot wait to watch you soar. πŸ’™πŸ’š

A huge THANK YOU to Deputy Buck for helping create unforgettable experiences for our Owlettes this year! πŸ¦‰πŸ’™

On Thursday during our 5th grade graduation celebration, the New Bern Police Department came out to celebrate with our students and brought so much joy, laughter, and encouragement. Then today, the Craven County Sheriff’s Office joined in the fun as well! From bounce houses and smiles to building positive relationships with our students, these moments matter more than words can express.

Deputy Buck has worked all year long to build connections between our students and local law enforcement, and we are so thankful for the love, time, and support poured into ORA. Our students were able to see officers laughing with them, cheering them on, and simply being present in their lives. ❀️

It truly takes a village, and we are thankful these amazing community partners are part of ours!

One last PBIS celebration before we say goodbye,
With laughter, smiles, and bounce houses reaching high! πŸ¦‰πŸ’š

Our Owlettes worked hard all throughout the year,
Showing kindness, making choices, and spreading school cheer.

They earned their points one day at a time,
Following expectations and doing their best to shine.

So today we jumped, laughed, played, and had fun in the sun,
Celebrating a school year full of growth for everyone!

We are so proud of our Owlettes and all they achieved this year.
Now let the countdown to summer begin! β˜€οΈπŸŽ‰

A little clay, a lot of creativity, and hands full of imagination! πŸŽ¨πŸ¦‰

Mrs. Jones’ art students have done an AMAZING job on their clay artwork! From shaping and designing to painting and creating, our Owlettes showed so much creativity, patience, and talent.

At ORA, we love giving students opportunities to express themselves through the arts, and these beautiful creations are something to be proud of! Great job to Mrs. Jones and all of our talented young artists! πŸ’š
