Craven County WIC is here to serve eligible pregnant women, postpartum and breastfeeding women, infants, and children until age five. Your child’s height, weight, iron level, and general health will be followed to ensure he/she is growing well. We provide breastfeeding support, nutrition education, food benefits, and outside referrals to participants. We have breastfeeding classes monthly, and a l
arge breastfeeding program to support a mother’s needs. We have a friendly and knowledgeable staff to answer any questions with maternal, infant, and child nutrition. Our main site is at the Craven County Health Department in New Bern. Our satellite site is on MCAS Cherry Point in Havelock. It is available to anyone with base access. WIC is a federally funded program through the USDA. Craven County also offers nutrition counseling services for children and adults. Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) is available to anyone needing nutritional counseling. If you have Insurance a referral is needed by your Primary Care Giver. For those without insurance or if your insurances does not cover nutritional counseling fees are charged on a sliding scale based on income. The health department currently accepts most insurances including, Medicare and Medicaid. Please check with your insurance provider prior to scheduling the MNT appointment to see if it will cover Medical Nutrition Therapy. Nondiscrimination Statement
