A dear friend of ours is attempting to get 50 selfies promoting seatbelt safety by July 4th. Her son, at 17 years old, was unrestrained in his vehicle when he tragically lost his life in a car accident. This is a story we hear far too often. So, let’s rally together and join in on spreading the importance of seat belt safety by taking and posting a !

Great catch Garrett!!

Garrett Gatlin, a student in Ms. Taylor's Health Science class put his CPR training into action. Last week he noticed an elderly man had fallen and didn't look like he was responding to his caretaker. Below is Garrett's story:

"His wife started calling 911 as I ran up to help. I was talking to the operator when he started throwing up. As we were tilting him on his side so he wouldn't choke a construction worker came to help us. When he came the old man started getting purple and we couldn't find a pulse so we started CPR and rotated every 30 times. After about 2 minutes he started gasping but his pulse was too slow so we kept going and luckily the ambulance came and took over. So basically the worker and I got him breathing again until the paramedics could take over and provide the care he needed. He is at the hospital now and hopefully alive! I'm very grateful to have taken a health science class where I learned CPR."

We are so proud of Garrett and his quick response!! Ms. Taylor and our CTE teachers do a fantastic job teaching students real life skills and helping them as they prepare for future careers!

We got spoiled with so many good treats for EMS week and we even had the opportunity to have the City of New Bern, NC Police Department join us for our “Pull to the Right Campaign”. This helps recognize the importance of pulling to the right for emergency vehicles!
