Craven County Sheriff’s Office Receives 2026 N.C. Gang Association Award for Operation Targeting Local Street Gang

The Craven County Sheriff’s Office along with multiple other local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies received an award this week for an operation targeting a local street gang in Craven County.

This joint operation resulted in law enforcement seizing:

* More than 840 grams of fentanyl
* More than 1,500 grams of methamphetamine
* Approximately 17 fi****ms

A total of 10 suspects were arrested resulting in the federal convictions and sentences totaling over 114 years in federal prison for gang members involved in the trafficking of fentanyl, methamphetamine, and fi****ms. Additional lower-level gang members remain pending prosecution in state court.

The success of this operation was made possible through exceptional interagency cooperation, resource sharing, intelligence coordination, and a long-standing full-time partnership among the Craven County Sheriff's Office, New Bern Police Department, North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections, ATF, HSI, and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI).

Additional support was provided from the Wayne County Sheriff's Office, Carteret County Sheriff's Office, and Nash County Sheriff's Office further enhanced the operation's effectiveness.

Craven County Sheriff Chip Hughes stated “Our Sheriff's Office maintains strong partnerships with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, as well as state and federal prosecutors. By collaborating daily, we ensure our cases are thorough and complete, holding criminals fully accountable. This level of teamwork has never been stronger”

Hughes continued, “I am proud to congratulate our Special Investigations Bureau on this award. Their daily dedication keeps Craven County a safer place for all of us to live, work, and raise our families. This successful operation reflects our commitment to placing exceptionally qualified professionals in key roles throughout the Sheriff’s Office to serve our community.”

SHERIFF CHIP HUGHES OFFERS TIPS FOR A SAFE LABOR DAY WEEKEND

With the approach of the Labor Day weekend, Craven County Sheriff Chip Hughes asks all citizens to join him in making this Labor Day holiday period a happy and enjoyable one for all.

Traditionally during the Labor Day holiday, our highways experience one of the highest traffic flows of the year. The sheriff reminds all Craven County residents to follow these safety tips:

• Always shift your attention every few seconds, constantly scanning the road ahead and behind you. Never blankly stare ahead nor fix your gaze on one point on the road.

• When passing an automobile, always glance at the ground beside the front wheel of the car you intend to pass. You will know instantly if the car is about to veer - giving you an extra few seconds to respond.

• You should pull out into the opposite lane of traffic when passing while you are still well behind the car in front. This should give you some time and space to build up speed and will enable you to pull back into your own lane should the need arise. Never cut abruptly out of your lane into the opposite lane when passing.

• Always signal your intentions with your brake lights, turn signals, horn and/or headlights so that other drivers will see you well before you change course.

• Drivers should always “aim high” in steering. That is, you should glance frequently at points well ahead of you. Not only will this help your steering, but it will also help you check the position of vehicles in front of you as well as on-coming ones.

• Never follow too close. Remember that, as your speed increases, it takes you substantially longer to stop. Also remember that it’s good to have an extra cushion of space in front of you if you’re being tail-gated, on a slippery road, or in low visibility conditions.

“Lastly, I would remind all motorists to practice the Golden Rule when driving. Be courteous and tolerant of other drivers. Please don’t get angry with bad drivers or reckless ones – just get out of their way,” Sheriff Hughes said in closing, “Let’s make this Labor Day weekend a safe one on the roads in Craven County.”

Craven County Sheriff's Administrative Office will be closed on Monday, September 7, 2026 in observance of Labor Day. All other Bureaus of the Sheriff's Office will be in full operation. We will resume normal office hours on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.

So what did Laurie Buckhout for Congress actually do? She bet on herself to win.

She placed a bet of less than $1,000 on Kalshi tied to the outcome of her own congressional race. Because she is a candidate who can influence the outcome, that violated Kalshi’s rules, resulting in a $2,589.96 fine and a three-year suspension. She did not realize betting on her own race was prohibited.

And what has Don Davis done?
Absolutely nothing. Which is why we the people are going to vote him out and send Laurie Buckhout to Washington DC.

Just going to leave this right here.
