Today is more than a day off, vacations at the beach, and grilling out. It’s about remembering those who gave the ultimate sacrifice to protect our freedoms.

Since becoming an elected official, and especially since taking office as Mayor, I’ve dedicated a tremendous amount of time and energy to educating our community and clearing up misinformation. Open communication has always been important to me.

I remember a few years ago, I conducted a survey about a topic and some critics immediately dismissed the results, claiming it was biased because people who follow my page are likely my supporters. That simply isn’t true. I value input from all residents and seize those opportunities for constructive dialogue.

Every decision I make, every vote I cast, and every comment or reply I share is done with careful thought and consideration. Sometimes people read into things or make assumptions because they don’t have the full context. That’s understandable, but I want to be very clear; my goal is always to do what’s best for our city and to communicate those decisions as openly and honestly as possible.

I will continue working hard to keep our community informed and engaged.

As our flags fly at half-staff at the Sheriff's Office and Courthouse we remember Nikki’s life, her service, and the legacy she leaves behind. She will be deeply missed, but she will never be forgotten.

Please continue to keep Sergeant Koonce’s family, friends, and fellow deputies in your thoughts and prayers.

Someone asked me today if I ever get tired of being the mayor. I told them that there are certainly times where the job is frustrating, but then I opened up the mail and read this letter. It reminded me of why I do it. Even this 7th grader recognizes my record of not voting for tax increases 😉

Thank you for the note Paxton!
