๐ŸŒŠ Redbank Creek Flood Update ๐ŸŒŠ

With warmer temperatures this week, along with rain on Wednesday, attention has turned to Redbank Creek, which has remained covered by thick ice throughout the winter.

There are reports of flooding upstream in the Summerville area, and as a precaution, Redbank Valley Schools dismissed students early Thursday afternoon, Feb. 19. Crews from New Bethlehem Borough have also been proactively moving picnic tables from Gumtown Park near the dam, as is customary during seasonal thaw conditions.

Emergency crews are closely monitoring the situation. One official noted that the creek level has been slowly rising, and local first responders along with the Borough Public Works Department are actively watching ice movement and water levels.

Additionally, tenants in low lying areas are encouraged to consider relocating vehicles as a precaution. Parking in the municipal parking lot is permitted temporarily until the risk subsides.

A reminder to residents:
โ€ข A continuous tone of the fire siren indicates flooding
โ€ข Stay away from the creek and moving water
โ€ข Obey any road closures, if necessary
โ€ข Follow the direction of first responders
โ€ข Turn around, donโ€™t drown

โ€œThese seasonal conditions are something we prepare for each year,โ€ said New Bethlehem Mayor, the Rev. Dr. Gordon V Barrows. โ€œOur crews are actively monitoring the creek, taking proactive measures, and working together to ensure the safety of our residents. We encourage everyone to stay alert, use caution, and rely on official updates.โ€

At this time, these procedures are precautionary and typical for this time of year as snow and ice begin to melt. Please continue to monitor official community social media pages and websites for updates as needed.

Stay safe, stay aware, and thank you for looking out for one another.

Cloudy with occasional rain late. Low near 40F. Winds SE at 10 to 20 mph. Chance of rain 90%. Rainfall near a quarter of an inch.
