🐅GLENWOOD TIGER ATHLETICS 🐅
🔥⚽ THROWBACK THURSDAY — A TIGER WALL BETWEEN THE POSTS! ⚽🔥
Welcome to another installment of Throwback Thursday in Glenwood Tiger Athletics! This week, we travel back to the fall of 1992 to shine the spotlight on one of the great goalkeepers to ever wear the Scarlet and Gray — JASON RISNER! 🐅🧤
When it came to protecting the goal, Jason Risner was a force to be reckoned with! Known for his booming drop kicks that could send a soccer ball soaring down the field and his spectacular saves between the posts, Jason made life miserable for opposing offenses!
During his senior campaign, Jason put together an outstanding season, recording an incredible 285 SAVES while stopping numerous penalty kicks along the way! His performance earned him SOC Player of the Year, First Team All-SOC, and First Team All-District honors! 🏆⚽
But Jason was more than just a defensive powerhouse! He also contributed on the offensive end, stepping up to take penalty kicks for the Tigers and finding the back of the net NINE TIMES FROM THE PENALTY SPOT! His booming kicks from the goalkeeper position also created scoring opportunities for his Tiger teammates, as he collected several assists along the way!
Over the course of his junior and senior seasons, Jason accumulated an astonishing 495 SAVES and earned All-SOC and All-District honors in BOTH seasons! 🧤🏆
Talk about an incredible two-year run between the posts!
But Jason’s soccer story didn’t end when his playing days were over. He went on to coach at several SOC schools, serving as an assistant before eventually taking over the Portsmouth West program. In 2005, Jason earned SOC Coach of the Year honors, making him a unique part of SOC history as someone recognized with this honor both as a player and as a coach!
And if you ever wondered just how tough Jason was to score against, we’ll let legendary Glenwood coach Don Lewis sum it up perfectly:
🐅 “JASON WAS AWFULLY HARD TO SCORE ON!!” 🐅
From his booming drop kicks to his spectacular saves, Jason Risner was the ultimate competitor and a tremendous representative of Glenwood Tiger Soccer!
Today, we celebrate one of the all-time greats who helped build the proud tradition of Glenwood Athletics. His accomplishments between the posts and his continued success in coaching are another reminder of the incredible talent that has worn the Scarlet and Gray!
