In an effort to be both transparent and informative, each month we publish a "Public Safety Community Report." This is also sometimes referred to as a "crime blotter." This report is only a small snapshot of calls for service responded to by our public safety personnel. It is not a comprehensive list of all calls for service. SUMMARY: The Huron Township Department of Public Safety responded to a total of 2,227 calls for service during the month of June. Of these calls, 2,117 were classified as police runs, 110 were classified as EMS runs. The police department completed a total of 162 crime reports and 21 accident reports. The fire department had an average response time of 10 minutes and police EMT had an average response time of 10 minutes.
• June 2nd: Officers responded to the 22000 block of Verdun for a reported domestic assault. The complainant, a 32-year-old Huron Township resident, reported that her ex-boyfriend, a 36-year-old Rockwood resident, forced entry into the residence, damaged her personal property, and assaulted her before leaving the scene. According to the complainant, the suspect had moved out of the residence several weeks earlier but returned that evening. She reported that while she was sleeping on the couch, the suspect kicked open the front door, took her cell phone, and intentionally damaged it. Officers later located the suspect in Brownstown Township, where he was taken into custody.
• June 5th: Officers responded to the 37000 block of Huron River Drive for a reported hit-and-run traffic crash. The complainant, a 30-year-old Belleville resident, reported that another vehicle struck his vehicle and fled the scene without stopping. Officers located the suspected driver, a 24-year-old Belleville resident, at his residence. Following an investigation, the suspect was arrested for Operating While Intoxicated (OWI) and Failure to Stop and Provide Identification Following a Traffic Crash.
• June 7th: Officers responded to the 24000 block of Inkster Road for a reported unattended death. The caller, a 51-year-old Palmyra resident, reported that his 78-year-old father had passed away. Upon arrival, officers located the deceased individual and determined that he had died several hours earlier. Following an investigation, officers found no signs of foul play. The death appears to have been due to natural causes.
• June 12th: Officers responded to the 27000 block of Clairet Drive for a 911 hang-up call. Upon arrival, officers heard yelling coming from inside the residence, including multiple individuals shouting, "Stop" and "Call the police." Officers contacted a 15-year-old Brownstown resident at the front door. An investigation determined that a verbal argument had occurred between a 37-year-old Huron Township resident and her 35-year-old Huron Township boyfriend after family members were visiting the residence. During the altercation, the male suspect allegedly assaulted the victim. The 35-year-old Huron Township resident was arrested for violence.
• June 15th: Officers responded to the 35000 block of Stream View Drive for a reported reckless driving complaint. A witness reported observing a vehicle being driven erratically and advised that debris from the vehicle was scattered in the roadway. Upon arrival, officers located a fluid trail and followed it to a nearby residence, where they found the damaged vehicle and made contact with the driver. The investigation determined that the driver, an 18-year-old Huron Township resident, was operating the vehicle while intoxicated and had driven across neighboring lawns before returning home. The driver was arrested for Operating While Intoxicated (OWI).
• June 18th: Officers responded to the 28000 block of Arbor Road for a reported missing person. The caller reported that he had not seen or spoken with his 29-year-old daughter for more than two days and stated that she had not returned home after he came home from work. Officers investigated and determined that the individual had voluntarily admitted herself to a nearby hospital. She was confirmed to be safe, and the missing person investigation was closed.
• June 28th: Officers responded to the 28000 block of Boxwood for a reported domestic violence incident. The caller reported that his 13-year-old stepson had threatened his mother with a knife. An investigation determined that the juvenile became upset after his mother would not allow him to go outside. During the argument, the juvenile allegedly retrieved a kitchen knife and threatened to kill her. The 13-year-old male was taken into custody on suspicion of domestic violence.
Fire Investigations:
• June 27th: The Huron Township Department of Public Safety responded to the 21000 block of Bell Road for a reported structure fire. The caller reported that an outbuilding was on fire and that the flames were spreading toward a nearby camper. While emergency personnel were on the way, the caller advised dispatch that the camper had also caught fire. Upon arrival, firefighters quickly extinguished the fire, preventing further spread. No injuries were reported.
