In a continued effort to organize and keep our community clean, as well as to protect our service department employees from injury, New Boston Village Council adopted the enclosed ordinance on May 21, 2024 relating to garbage and trash collection. This measure has been beneficial in keeping the village cleaner and safer. Please understand that while there are nominal user fees associated with this plan, New Boston continues to be the only local community without a monthly garbage collection fee.
Simply, we require that all household garbage be placed inside the closed-lid tote. If all garbage fits inside the tote with the lid closed, then your garbage will continue to be picked up without any additional cost to you. Any extra bags, containers, or excess garbage/trash placed outside the closed tote needs an excess trash sticker placed on it.
The necessary stickers may be purchased at the New Boston Community Center for one dollar ($1.00) each. Bulk loads or large items (furniture, appliances, mattress, etc.) will be picked up by appointment only (740-456-4103) and are subject to fees. Any couch, chair, loveseat, mattress, box spring, etc. must be wrapped in plastic which may be purchased from the Village, or you may use your own so long as the item is completely wrapped. Unmarked bags/containers outside the tote, bulk loads, or large items picked up without scheduling an appointment will be charged additional fees.
Property owners/residents will receive an invoice for such fees. All unpaid fees will be assessed through the Scioto County Auditor's office.
All totes remain the property of the Village of New Boston. Additional totes may b e leased from the Village. Each tote has a unique identification number for location and tracking purposes. All residents/property owners are responsible for their own assigned tote(s).
Please read the ordinance thoroughly as it will be STRICTLY enforced. Your garbage pickup day will NOT change. Tenants should communicate with their landlord to discuss and remind them of this ordinance. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions or concerns.
Thank you in advance for your continued effort to make New Boston a cleaner and safer place to live and work.
Respectfully,
Mayor Ralph Imes
