TRAFFIC ALERT: UNION PACIFIC RAILROAD CLOSURES

Union Pacific has notified the City of New Braunfels that they will have various railroad crossing closures in New Braunfels between Tuesday, February 11, and Monday, February 17, for maintenance. Drivers are encouraged to note the following schedule and plan their routes accordingly:

The City of New Braunfels invites you to share your vision for the future of Downtown New Braunfels! Join us on Wednesday, December 11, for an open house-style meeting to learn how Form-Based Code zoning can support walkable, compatible redevelopment in downtown areas.

🕒 Two Meetings Available:
▪️Afternoon Session: Noon – 1 p.m.
▪️Evening Session: 5:30 – 6:45 p.m.

📍Location: City Municipal Building, 424 South Castell Avenue

City staff will present feedback from downtown business and property owners and explain how this approach could help meet key goals. You’ll also be able to participate in activities and take a survey to share your thoughts and ideas for downtown’s future.

🚲 The City of New Braunfels is hosting an open house-style public meeting for residents to learn more about the Comal Avenue & Faust Street Bikeway Project. The meeting will be held on Thursday, November 21, from 5:30 p.m. – 7 p.m. at the New Braunfels Municipal Building, 424 South Castell Avenue.

This project will upgrade the bike infrastructure for the existing bike route on Comal Avenue and Faust Street, which connects Downtown New Braunfels and Gruene. The open house meeting will give property owners and the community a chance to review the recommended changes, ask questions, and provide feedback to City staff. Can’t make the meeting? On Wednesday, September 11, the City of New Braunfels will hold a ceremony marking the anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks. Members of the City of New Braunfels Fire Department and New Braunfels Police Department Honor Guard will march from Central Fire Station to Main Plaza followed by a flag raising and lowering ceremony to commemorate when American Airlines Flight 11 crashed into the North Tower of the World Trade Center.

📌March – Begin at 7:25 a.m.
📌Ceremony – Begin at 7:40 a.m.

Traffic around the Main Plaza will be closed starting at approximately 7:15 a.m. Those wishing to attend the ceremony should gather on the Main Plaza near the flagpole and bandstand. The event will conclude, and traffic on the Plaza will return to normal at approximately 8:15 a.m.

Update June 9, 2024 9:27 p.m.
Crews are still working on repairs and the road closure is expected to continue through tomorrow. We appreciate your patience and will continue to update as new information becomes available.

A road closure is required in order for crews to make needed repairs at the Gruene Water Reclamation Plant. Traffic coming into Gruene on Gruene Road from Common Street will be detoured right onto Sunnybrook, left onto Rapids Drive and then back onto Hunter. Traffic coming into Gruene from FM 306 will be able to continue through on Hunter.

Repairs will continue through the weekend. We will update once repairs are complete and the road is fully back open.
