Forecasters with the National Weather Service are predicting the possibility of winter weather conditions this weekend and early next week across South Central Texas, including freezing overnight temperatures and the possibility of a mix of winter precipitation including rain, sleet, ice, and snow flurries. As a precaution, the City of New Braunfels is taking several proactive steps and will closely monitor weather conditions as additional decisions are made.

CITY FACILITIES & SERVICES🏛️
New Braunfels City staff will monitor updates from the National Weather Service to determine whether City facilities or services will be affected. Any postponements or closures will be posted on the City’s website at www.newbraunfels.gov and on the City’s social media accounts, including Facebook, Instagram, and NextDoor.

▪️ Police, Fire & EMS, Public Works, and Solid Waste pick-up will continue operations as normal.

Please note: There are currently no changes to the schedule for residential or commercial garbage and recycling pickup. Should changes become necessary, updates will be posted on the City of New Braunfels website and on the City’s social media platforms.

▪️ Monday, January 20th, is already a City holiday in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, with closures scheduled for City Hall, Municipal Court, the Public Library, Parks & Recreation administrative offices, and the Westside Community Center.

▪️ Das Rec will continue normal hours of operation on Monday.

▪️ The Landa Park Golf Course will be closed beginning Monday, Jan. 20th through Wednesday, Jan. 22nd and will re-open on Thursday, Jan. 23rd at 12:00pm.

▪️ Restrooms, water fountains, and other similar facilities in all City parks have been winterized and are closed until the end of overnight freezing temperatures.

ROAD AND BRIDGE PREPARATION 🚧
Preparations by City Public Works crews have been made to lay down gravel and de-icing agents on local roads and bridges should that become necessary. TxDOT is making similar preparations for I-35 and other major highways. Should road closures become necessary, residents can find updated local road closure information on the City of New Braunfels website. If icy conditions form, drivers are advised to avoid travel, if possible.

CITY MEETINGS AND EVENTS 📅
The Martin Luther King Day March downtown, hosted by the New Braunfels MLK Association, is planned for Monday morning at 9am starting at Prince Solms Park. Attendees are advised to dress warmly. For more information on that event, please visit the New Braunfels MLK Association page.

There are currently no other changes to City-related meetings or events. Any changes will be posted on the City website and on the City’s social media platforms.
