As the summer season approaches, the Comal County Sheriff's Office encourages everyone to observe National Water Safety Month. Whether enjoying local rivers, area lakes, or backyard pools, please prioritize drowning prevention, utilize approved life jackets, and remember "REACH, THROW, DONT GO" to keep our community safe.

As local first responders, we unfortunately respond to far too many preventable water-related emergencies each year. Drowning happens quickly and often silently.

Please review these essential safety measures to protect your loved ones:

Wear a Life Jacket: U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jackets save lives, especially in open waters like the Guadalupe River or Canyon Lake.

Designate a Water Watcher: Ensure a sober, focused adult is watching swimmers at all times. Avoid distractions like cell phones or socializing.

Learn CPR: Knowing CPR before an emergency arises can make a lifesaving difference in those critical first few minutes.

Today, members of the Comal County Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard had the privilege of participating in the Texas Department of Public Safety’s dedication ceremony for the new patrol boat named in honor of Trooper Randal “Randy” Vetter.

Trooper Vetter made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty, but his dedication, service, and legacy continue to live on through those who carry the mission forward each day.
