Have you ever seen your lights flick off for a few seconds and then flick back on during stormy weather? That's what it looks like when a smart switch is doing its job. These devices can detect trouble spots on our electric system, and they enable our remote system operators to isolate power outages right from the control room and reroute power to our customers from a backup source. This cool tech has delivered big reliability benefits, significantly reducing the frequency and duration of power outages for our customers since we started installing them in 2016. We loved partnering with ReadyCT’s Get Ready! Immersive Traineeship (GRIT) program to connect students with hands-on learning and real-world career pathways. Mentored by our employees all summer long, these students worked in teams on off-site projects to gain valuable experience that will serve them well for years to come. Collaborating with diverse colleagues to advance critical work like our Southeast Resiliency Project for the benefit of our customers. We joined Seth at Hurd State Park for a tour of his team’s progress completing the final phase to help ensure safe, reliable service for homes and businesses across eastern Connecticut for years to come.

This summer marked our 26th year giving back to our friends at Mercy Housing and Shelter Corporation's St. Elizabeth House and Friendship Food Center. The team organized a pop-up clothing giveaway, transformed the patio for a community cookout, and grilled and served lunch to nearly 100 residents and guests. We’re proud to support our neighbors and help make a meaningful impact, one meal at a time.

Earlier this month, employees from our transmission team spent the day volunteering at Legacy Theatre CT’s Youth Summer Camp in Branford, where nearly 70 kids explored the arts, local shoreline history, Stony Creek Museum, and Thimble Islands. We loved lending a hand and helping inspire the next generation to discover, create, and appreciate the arts.
