Come Join Us for a New Britain EMS Open House on September 23rd!

Come and learn more about New Britain’s EMS system, meet the paramedics and EMTs who respond to emergencies throughout our community, and take away some life-saving information.

📅 Two sessions will be offered:
September 23rd, 2026
4:00–6:00 PM
6:00–8:00 PM

Throughout the open house, attendees will have the opportunity to:

🚑 Tour an ambulance and learn about our emergency medical equipment
👶 Receive a car seat safety check
🩸 Learn the basics of Stop the Bleed
❤️ Learn CPR and choking response
💜 Participate in Narcan training and overdose awareness
👋 Meet members of the New Britain EMS team and learn more about your local 911 EMS system

All sessions are FREE, but registration is required.

🚑 CARDIAC ARREST SAVE RECOGNITION ❤️

We would like to recognize EMT Ancona, Paramedic Petritz, Senior Paramedic/FTO Sabel, and Lieutenant Parmelee for a recent cardiac arrest save.

The crew responded to a patient experiencing a medical emergency and, upon arrival, found the patient in cardiac arrest with bystander CPR already underway. Working alongside New Britain Fire Department personnel, EMS personnel quickly initiated advanced resuscitation efforts.

The patient was found in a shockable cardiac rhythm and required multiple electrical therapies and medications before achieving a sustained spontaneous heartbeat (ROSC). Following stabilization and transport, the patient received definitive cardiac care at the hospital.

Most importantly, the patient returned home.

Successful cardiac arrest outcomes are truly a team effort—from the New Britain 911 dispatch center tele-communicators, the bystander who recognized the emergency and immediately began CPR, to our EMS and Fire personnel working together on scene, to the hospital team providing definitive care.

Outstanding work by everyone involved, and congratulations to EMT Ancona, Paramedic Petritz, Senior Paramedic/FTO Sabel, and Lieutenant Parmelee on an exceptional save and a tremendous patient outcome.

This is why early CPR, early defibrillation, and high-quality coordinated resuscitation matter. ❤️🚑

NBEMS paramedics and EMS educators were recently invited to participate in the Connecticut Association of Athletic Trainers Emergency Skills Bootcamp, working alongside athletic trainers to strengthen the coordination between on-field medical care and EMS.

Emergencies involving athletes require a coordinated response, clear communication, and an understanding of each provider’s role. Training together before an emergency occurs helps ensure a seamless transition of care when every second matters.

Thank you to the Connecticut Association of Athletic Trainers for inviting NBEMS to join this valuable training opportunity. We appreciate the chance to share our experience, learn alongside other healthcare professionals, and help strengthen emergency preparedness for athletes across Connecticut.

Congratulations to the graduates of the 2026 New Britain First Responder Youth Academy (FRYA) who graduated last week!

Over the past five weeks, New Britain high school students interested in careers in public safety participated in an intensive program designed to provide a firsthand look at emergency services. Through hands-on training and mentorship, participants worked alongside members of New Britain EMS, the New Britain Police Department, and the New Britain Fire Department while developing the teamwork, leadership, and communication skills that are essential to serving a community.

As part of the program, each student earned certifications in CPR, Stop the Bleed, and Mental Health QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer), equipping them with lifesaving skills they can use long before pursuing a career in public safety.

A special shout-out to Instructor Jason Nadeau for his outstanding work preparing and delivering the EMS curriculum throughout the program. His expertise and dedication helped provide students with valuable hands-on experience and lifesaving skills that will serve them well in the future.

This program is made possible through the partnership of ReadyCT, the New Britain Consolidated School District, New Britain Police Department, New Britain Fire Department, and New Britain EMS. We are honored to be part of an initiative that inspires and prepares the next generation of public safety professionals.
