FATAL ATV CRASH ON COFFEE COUNTY ROAD 111 UNDER INVESTIGATION

The Coffee County Coroner’s Office confirms that Joshua Phillips Roberts, 41, of Brundidge, was killed in an ATV crash early Saturday morning on Coffee County Road 111, approximately 15 miles north of Enterprise.
The crash occurred at approximately 1:45 a.m. when the ATV struck a deer, causing Mr. Roberts to be ejected. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Highway Patrol Division. The Coffee County Coroner’s Office, Coffee County Sheriff’s Office, and 12th Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office are also involved in the investigation.
Please keep the family and loved ones of Mr. Roberts in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Proud to represent Alabama this week at the 2026 International Association of Coroners & Medical Examiners (IACME) Annual Conference

Mark and myself were Proud to represent Alabama and Coffee County this week at the 2026 International Association of Coroners & Medical Examiners (IACME) Annual Conference in Las Vegas.
The Advanced Medicolegal Death Investigation Symposium once again proved to be an outstanding educational experience. From current forensic science and toxicology updates to complex case studies and death investigation best practices, every session provided valuable information that can be brought back home to better serve our communities.
One thing I firmly believe is that we should never stop learning. Every conference, every class, and every conversation with professionals from across the country makes us better prepared to serve families during some of the most difficult moments of their lives.
I’m grateful for the opportunity to represent the Coffee County Coroner’s Office and the State of Alabama, and I appreciate everyone who works to advance the professionalism of medicolegal death investigation.
Thank you to the IACME and the Clark County Office of the Coroner/Medical Examiner for hosting another exceptional conference.

At 8:41 p.m. on Sunday July, 12, 2026, the Coffee County 911 Dispatch Center received a report of a pedestrian who had been struck by a vehicle in the 5000 block of Alabama Highway 51 North, just north of Enterprise.
Emergency personnel from the New Brockton Fire Department, Enterprise Rescue, and the Coffee County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene. Upon arrival, responders located Mr. Hosea Head Jr., of New Brockton, deceased.
Based on the preliminary investigation, it appears Mr. Head was walking along the unlit portion of the highway when he was struck by a single vehicle. He was pronounced deceased at the scene at 9:00 p.m.
The incident remains under investigation by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), the Coffee County Coroner's Office, and the 12th Judicial Circuit District Attorney's Office. No additional information is being released at this time pending the ongoing investigation.
The Coffee County Coroner's Office extends its appreciation to the New Brockton Fire Department, Enterprise Rescue, the Coffee County Sheriff's Office, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, and the 12th Judicial Circuit District Attorney's Office for their professionalism and assistance during this incident.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Mr. Head's family and loved ones during this difficult time.

Today has been a heartbreaking day for our community

At approximately 1:37 p.m., the Coffee County 911 Center received a 911 call reporting a possible drowning involving two missing individuals at the bridge at the intersection of Alabama Highway 87 and Alabama Highway 84 near Elba.
Responding agencies quickly arrived on scene and determined that two individuals had gone underwater and did not resurface. The preliminary investigation indicates that 21-year-old Benji Falvo of Elba went underwater while attempting to cross the river. His stepfather, David Thomas Rubright of Elba, entered the water in an attempt to rescue him and also went underwater.
At approximately 5:00 p.m., Mr. Rubright was recovered. At approximately 6:13 p.m., Mr. Falvo was recovered.
This incident remains under investigation by the Elba Police Department, the Coffee County Coroner’s Office, and the 12th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.
We would like to thank all of the agencies that responded and worked tirelessly throughout the afternoon and evening, including Elba Fire Department, New Brockton Fire Department, Enterprise Rescue, Enterprise Air 1 and Air 2, Coffee County EMA, Bullock Fire Department, Opp Fire Department Dive Team, Houston County Dive Team, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Marine Patrol/Game Wardens, and the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office.
Both individuals will be transported to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for autopsies as part of the ongoing investigation.
On behalf of the Coffee County Coroner’s Office, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the Falvo and Rubright families. We ask everyone to please keep these families, their friends, and all of the first responders involved in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.
