Coffee County Sheriff's Office - Alabama

Coffee County Sheriff's Office - Alabama Coffee County Sheriff's Office Coffee County was created by the Alabama legislature on December 29, 1841, from what had been part of Dale County.

It was named for General John Coffee, a hero of the Creek War of 1813-1814. Coffee County is located in the southeastern part of the state and is bordered on the north by Pike County, on the east by Dale County, on the south by Geneva County, and on the west by Covington and Crenshaw counties. It encompasses over 680 square miles. The first county seat was at Wellborn. The county courthouse was de

stroyed by fire in 1851, and the following year the legislature authorized an election to be held to select another site. The town of Elba, then called Bentonville, was chosen. Today, Coffee County maintains two courthouses (Elba and Enterprise). The present Elba courthouse, constructed in 1903, survived the floods of 1929 and the 1990s. Although high water stains remain on the walls, this building continues to serve the western division of the county. In 1843, William Peoples served as Coffee County's first Sheriff.

🛑 4-Way Stop Reminder! 🛑

The Coffee County Sheriff’s Office reminds drivers to know the rules at a four-way stop:

🚗 First to stop = first to go.

➡️ If two vehicles arrive at the same time, the vehicle on the right always goes first.

👀 Always make a complete stop and make sure the intersection is clear before proceeding.

A little patience and courtesy can help prevent a crash. Drive safe, Coffee County!

🚗 Your Teen's Driver's License Is a Milestone—Not the Finish Line. 🚗

After spending years protecting your children from dangers both on and off the road, the time eventually comes to hand them the keys to the family car.

For teens, a driver's license represents freedom. For parents, it can bring a mix of pride and concern. The truth is that new drivers aren't ready to take on the same level of driving responsibility as experienced adults.

Teen drivers are involved in more fatal crashes than any other age group, largely because of inexperience, immaturity, speeding, distractions, and the influence of passengers.

As a parent, you play a critical role in helping your teen become a safe driver:

✅ Learn Alabama's Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL) laws and the restrictions that apply to your teen's license.
✅ Set clear rules for driving and consistently enforce them.
✅ Talk openly about the dangers of alcohol and drugs. Remind your teen that drinking under age 21 is illegal, and impaired driving can have tragic consequences.
✅ Be the example they need. Buckle up, avoid distractions, obey speed limits, and never drive impaired.
✅ Continue practicing with your teen even after driver's education. Safe driving is a skill that develops through experience and guidance.

The conversations you have today and the example you set behind the wheel can help protect your teen for years to come.
