🥶💙We’re Taking the Plunge for a Great Cause💙🥶

The New Buffalo Police Department is proud to be participating in the Southwest Michigan Polar Plunge to support the Michigan Special Olympics! This amazing event is being held on February 7, 2025 at 12:00pm at Watermark in Stevensville, MI, helps provide year-round sports training and opportunities for athletes with disabilities—and we’re honored to be part of it.

Our officers will be braving the cold (and wearing some fun costumes!) to raise money for this incredible cause. 🎭❄️

đź’™Our donation goal this year is $2,000, and we would love your support! Every dollar makes a difference and goes directly toward helping the Michigan Special Olympics.

If you’re able, please consider donating and cheering on our plungers as they jump in for a purpose. Thank you for helping us make a positive impact in our community! Click the link below to donate.

Help us raise $2000 for a great cause! Our Police Department is excited to jump into the icy waters! See you all there!

On Saturday June 28, 2025, at approximately 8:30 p.m., the New Buffalo City Police along with the above listed agencies responded to a call for a water rescue on the N. Whittaker Street bridge over the Galien River. It was reported that a male subject had jumped off the bridge and was now in the water and could no longer be seen. Witnesses reported observing the male subject jump off the bridge into the water, then go underwater.

The victim was identified as Tucker Vaughn a 20-year-old male from Niles, MI.

Responders extensively searched the area, including the Galien River, ultimately finding Mr. Vaughn deceased in the river. The Berrien County Dive team made the recovery and Vaughn’s body was turned over to the Medical Examiner’s office for further investigation.

The New Buffalo City Police Department would like to thank all the assisting agencies and the bystanders that assisted in this tragic situation. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family, friends and loved ones of Tucker Vaughn.
