This evening Salina Fire Dept. Division Chief of EMS Nathan Komarek recognize Chief David Turner and FF/EMT Zeb Turner for a person reporting chest pain.

When crews arrived, the patient was in full cardiac arrest, pulseless and not breathing. Through quick action, strong teamwork, and high-quality patient care, the crew was able to regain a pulse on scene before transporting the patient to SRHC ER for continued treatment.

Calls like this reflect the training, professionalism, and commitment our personnel bring every day. We are proud of this crew and the care they provided in a critical moment.

Recently Dist #5 assisted the Salina Area Technical College Fire Science students with their live burn practical. This is one of the skills required to have prior to taking the Firefighter I & II National test. The students did a great job!! Thank you to our friends at Salina Fire Dept. for also assisting. 🔥 Fire Weather Alert🔥

Weather conditions are deteriorating earlier than expected across western Kansas. Humidity levels are dropping, winds are increasing, and fire danger will escalate from Very High to Extreme as these conditions continue.

⚠️ Now is the time to be extra cautious.
• Avoid any outdoor burning
• Do not weld, grind, or operate equipment that could spark
• Secure trailer chains and avoid parking in tall grass

If you see smoke or fire, report it immediately. It only takes one spark under these conditions.

🔥 This week, much of Kansas is forecasted to experience record-high temperatures—great weather for spending time outdoors with family and friends. However, warm, dry, and windy conditions can also create an environment ripe for wildfires.

🎄 The holidays are about family, tradition, and time together. We ask everyone to do their part to prevent wildfires by avoiding activities that could create a spark. A little extra caution can make a big difference in helping protect our communities and ensuring our firefighters can celebrate the holidays at home with their loved ones.

High winds and low humidity, be careful tomorrow not to cause any fire starts.

A cold front will usher in very strong northwest winds with gusts greater than 50 mph on Thursday. In addition, dry conditions will contribute to extreme grassland fire potential across the area.

A winter storm system will bring accumulating snow to the region on Monday. Be alert for hazardous travel conditions, especially during the morning hours across central Kansas.
