What's Changed:
• Winter Storm Warning for western Greenbrier County
• Winter Weather Advisory for the Alleghanys south into the NC mountains, west/northwest of I-81
• High Wind Warning in effect for along and west of the Blue Ridge, and for western Greenbrier County
• Wind Advisories in effect for remainder of the Mountain Empire and counties along the Blue Ridge
• Extreme Cold Warning in effect for western Greenbrier and Bath Counties
• Cold Weather Advisories in effect for rest of Mountain Empire counties west of the Blue Ridge

Threats:
• Snow
• Strong Winds
• Low Wind Chills
Timing: For the wintry weather, Friday through Saturday morning for areas west of the Blue Ridge
For the strong winds, Friday night into Saturday
For the wind chills, Friday night-Saturday morning

Overview and Impacts:
• Hazardous road conditions due to snow.
• Weak trees, tree branches may be blown down and could cause power outages
• Very cold wind chills could lead to frostbite and hypothermia if unprotected skin is
exposed to these temperatures.

Craig County will have warming centers in place in the event of a known power outage in your area. The locations that will be available upon the notification of a power outage will be:

New Castle Volunteer fire Department, located at 4 4 3 Conrad St., New Castle, VA
And
Simmonsville Volunteer Fire Department, located at 5 7 8 3 Cumberland Gap Rd, Newport, VA

The weather and power outages will be monitored closely during the storm event. If you have a power outage and need assistance, call the Craig County Sheriff’s Office at 5 4 0-8 6 4-5 1 2 7

Craig County Emergency Management is working with Virginia Department of Emergency Management and the National Weather Service on the upcoming storm this weekend. All County Emergency Service Agencies are preparing at this time for the event.

The Craig County Burn Ban has been LIFTED as of this morning due to the recent rains we have received with more predicted this weekend.

The burn ban is for open air fires. Outdoor wood stoves are ok to use. They have an enclosed fire box and most of these stoves have spark arrestors on them.
