The warning period for Paul Miller’s law ends today. Tomorrow drivers can be stopped and cited for using a mobile device while driving even if you’re stopped in traffic or waiting at a red light.

Paul Miller’s law is named after Paul Miller Jr. who was killed in a distracted driving accident in 2010.

Yesterday, the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office proudly participated in the Pennsylvania Sheriffs’ Association and Scouting America initiative, “Light to Unite / Flags Across the Commonwealth.”

As part of America’s upcoming 250th Birthday celebration, a special American Flag is being toured through all 67 counties across Pennsylvania.

The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office was honored to take part in a special flag raising ceremony at the Lawrence County Government Center alongside Lawrence County Scout Troop 743 and the Lawrence County Commissioners.

We would like to thank our local Scouts for their participation and commitment to citizenship, service, and community. It was a privilege to recognize this historic occasion together while honoring our nation’s heritage and the values the American flag represents.

God Bless America.

The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents of an ongoing phone scam.

Scammers are impersonating Sheriff’s Deputies or Federal Court Officials, claiming you missed federal jury duty and have a warrant for your arrest. They may provide fake case numbers and pressure you to stay on the phone while directing you to withdraw money or pay using:

• Gift cards
• Wire transfers
• Cryptocurrency

Know this:

• Courts will NEVER demand payment over the phone
• Law enforcement will NEVER ask for gift cards or crypto
• Federal jury notices are sent ONLY by U.S. Mail

If you receive a call:

• Hang up immediately
• Do NOT give any personal or financial information
• Report it to your local law enforcement
