Portions of central Indiana generally south of I-70 have been upgraded to a slight risk for severe weather this afternoon with damaging winds the primary threat. Multiple rounds of storms are possible with the severe threat likely to end later this evening from the west.

It’s that time of year that we start to close some operations in preparation for the winter. Boat Rental and the camp store are closed for the season. Camping goods and Summit Gear can be bought at the park office year round. on.IN.gov/summitlakesp

Amenities and Winterization Operations update 10/06/26:

Park Office - Open Daily 8:30am-4pm, closed for lunch 12-12:30pm. They sell passes, gift shop items and licenses. The office is closed on State Holidays.

Main Gate - Open 24hrs Fri-Sun. They sell passes, limited gift shop items, firewood, and bait.

Dump Station - Open, closes after November 5, 2025.

Campground Comfort Stations - All are open.

Campground Reservations can be made online and day of until 11pm at camp.IN.gov. Sites 75-120 are open to reservations until November 5, when it is closed for the season.

All water is currently on in the campground. Water will be shut down after November 5, 2025. There is a frost-free water fill station at the Camp Gate that is open year-round.

North Ramp restroom - Open year-round

Fish cleaning station - Open, Closes mid-October

Restrooms by Harvey Shelter/South Ramp - Closes after November 5.

Beach - Sandy portion and picnic area open year-round. Swimming area and restrooms are closed until the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend 2027. The concessions will not be opening next summer (2027).

Sunset Shelter Vault Toilet - Open year round

Youth Tent Water - On, until November 5.

Youth Tent Vault Toilet - Open year round

Boat Rental/Camp Store- closed for the season.

Winter water sources
- Frost-free hydrant at Camp Gate open year round

The Storm/Tornado/Inclement Weather Shelter during recreation season includes all restrooms and vault toilets, except the beach house which will reopen May 2027.

After November 5, 2026, the emergency shelters will be the North Ramp restroom and vault toilets.

Due to staffing issues, the boat rental will be closed today. The office and main gate will remain open selling wood, ice, Summit Lake gear and lake permits. Sorry for any inconveniences and thank you for your understanding.

Due to winds speeds over 11mph with gust over 15 mph, boat rental will be close the remainder of today. When wind speeds reach over 11mph with gust over 15 mph, we pause boat rentals for safety reasons. The office and main gate will remain open selling wood, ice, Summit Lake gear and lake permits. Sorry for any inconveniences.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop early this evening and continue into tonight. Isolated damaging wind gusts will be possible along with periods of heavy rainfall.
