The New Castle Historic Preservation Board held its monthly meeting on Monday, April 15, 2024.
Six (6) Certificates of Appropriateness (COA) were submitted by the owner of 10 Court St. (Past A-1 Service Station Bldg)
COA #1 The addition of a double door front entrance and hanging lantern lights was approved.
COA #2 The addition of six planter boxes on exterior of building was approved.
COA #3 The addition of two internally illuminated LED signs for the exterior were denied due to the materials to be used for the signs being unknown. The owner has agreed to get requested information and resubmit COA for sign approval.
COA #4 The addition of six awnings over six of the nine openings on the exterior of building was requested by the owner. Two of the six awnings requested were approved to go over the two garage door openings on the Court St. side of building. The other four awnings were denied due to the unique architecture and openings of the arched windows on the building. These four awnings could still be approved at a later date.
COA #5 Board approved a handicap entrance at one of the openings on the Court St. side. This will enable owner to not have to build handicap ramp in front of building.
COA #6 Board approved replacement of all windows. Board also approved squared windows with fascia piece at top of opening for the Court St. Market section of building. Owner stated that this would save him $50,000 in the cost of windows due to not having specialized arched glass.
Their is not a stop-work order on this project presently or in the past regardless of the rumors. We are very excited for the owners and the the City of New Castle!
We have moved our next monthly meeting up a few weeks to accommodate the owner or any other owners in the District with interest in submitting COA's. All COA's are asked to be submitted one week in advance of the next monthly meeting for review.
Our next monthly meeting is Wednesday, May 8, 2024 at the City Locker building. Address is 24 S. Main St. Meetings are open to the public.
