The official theme for Fire Prevention Week 2026 (October 4–10) is Charge into Fire Safety™: Safe Charging Is a Superpower.
Sponsored by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), this year’s campaign focuses on reducing fires caused by lithium-ion batteries.
Key Safety Tips
• Use approved chargers: Only use the cord and charger that came with your device or a manufacturer-approved replacement.
• Charge on hard surfaces: Place devices on hard, flat surfaces like tables or desks instead of beds, couches, or under pillows where heat can get trapped.
• Unplug when done: Disconnect devices once they are fully charged to avoid stressing the battery.
• Watch for warning signs: Stop using a device immediately if it feels very hot, starts to swell, smokes, leaks, or makes unusual hissing or popping sounds.
• Charge large items outside: Power larger lithium-ion items—such as e-bikes, scooters, and heavy power tools—outdoors and away from exterior walls and exit

The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office invites the community to join us in honoring the life and service of K9 Baki.

Monday, October 5, 2026
6:00 P.M.
Lawrence County Courthouse
430 Court Street, New Castle

The memorial procession is expected to arrive at the courthouse at approximately 5:30 P.M. Members of the public are welcome to safely gather along the procession route or attend the memorial service.

Because several working police K9s are expected to attend, we respectfully ask that personal pets not be brought to the courthouse ceremony.
